Police: Man charged after false sexual assault claim

A Glens Falls man was charged with two misdemeanors Wednesday for allegedly making a false report that a man broke into his home and sexually assaulted him at gunpoint, police said.

Kenneth E. Austin, 21, was charged with falsely reporting an incident and making a false written statement after an investigation by Glens Falls Police, authorities said.

Glens Falls Police Capt. Robert Ash said Austin contacted police Nov. 25 to report that a man armed with a gun broke into his Sherman Avenue apartment late at night and forced him to perform a sex act.

He said he did not know the man, Ash said.

Police investigated and found that the claim was false, and that Austin said he was upset with a man with whom he had a relationship, Ash said. Austin did not accuse or identify the other man, police said.

Austin was released pending prosecution in Glens Falls City Court. Glens Falls Police Detective Sgt. Seth French and Officer Zack Flewelling handled the case.
