Woman Escapes Jail After Making False Rape Claims

When I first read the headline, my first thought was, "she broke out of jail to avoid facing charges for a false rape claim"? But no, that's not what this is about. It's just another in a long line of false claims about being raped in a taxi. It appears that the taxi driver was never arrested (we don't know if he was hauled in for questioning, forced to submit to DNA testing, etc.). We've already seen evidence of taxi drivers taking measures to protect themselves against falser rape claims -- see here.  While refusing to pick up single young women is drastic, it will not be surprising if drivers stop picking up women if there is even an appearance they've been drinking.

Here is the news story:

A 20 year-old girl has escaped jail after she admitted falsely claiming she was raped by a taxi driver.

Carol Leonard, of Briarsfield Road, Kilbarrack, told Gardai she was raped in a taxi following a night out in September, 2010.

The trained beauty therapist withdrew her statement a number of weeks later, admitting to officers that she didn’t remember what happened, and the rape was ‘in her head’.

In imposing a suspended sentence, the Judge described the offence as ‘profoundly immoral’, saying the only redeeming feature was that nobody had been arrested by Gardai.

Taxi driver threatened with false rape claim

Once again, a taxi driver was the target of a false rape threat. (Taxi drivers are not infrequent targets of false rape claims. See here: http://falserapesociety.blogspot.com/2011/03/another-woman-falsely-cries-rape.html)

Mohammed Asif, who works for Brighouse Taxis, picked up Natalie Woods, Nicola Cliberon, and Mark Mbye in Rastrick this last November, and was asked to take them to Huddersfield town centre. During the drive, one of the young women began making sexual advances to Mr. Asif, which turned out to be insincere.

Eventually, Mr. Asif pulled the taxi over and asked for the fare, said Prosecutor Simon Batiste, and after Mbye and Cliberon exited the taxi, Ms. Woods asked him to drive further up the street.

At some point, Woods told him that if he didn't give her money, she would scream and say he had attempted to rape her. Mr. Asif called her bluff and threatened to call the police. She asked him not to, and he drove her back down the street.

Cliberon and Mbye got back in the taxi, where they grabbed Mohammed and pulled him back against the seat while Woods tried to pull money out of the front pocket of his clothes. The court heard that she was able to rip the pocket and steal roughly £30.

Mr. Astif tried to grab Woods and drive to the police station but all three were able to escape.

It appears that Woods and Cliberon have numerous prior convictions, but none for robbery.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC stated that Woods admitted that she was the prime instigator and the judge jailed her for two years after she pleaded guilty to robbery. Cliberon and Mbye also admitted to being involved, but neither of them were jailed. (Cliberon was actually given a 12 month sentence, but it was suspended, with a three month night time home curfew. She must also do 150 hours of community service work and be under supervision for a year. Mbye was given a 12 month community order which includes an alcohol reduction program, a year supervision and 120 hours of community service.)

“Finally with the brief assistance of the others you robbed him of his takings,” said Judge Durham Hall.
“I can’t overlook this Miss Woods. You came to court knowing you had to go to prison for this offence. You have taken onto your shoulders much of the blame which is to your credit.”

Girl detained for Bolton taxi rape lie

Another taxi driver, another false accusation. This after the taxi driver gave her a ride home, despite the fact that she didn't have the fare.

The second article link below gives a bit more detail, that not only was she given a 12 month detention, she was given a training order as well.

AfOR, or anyone else for that matter, if you can please give an explanation of what a training order consists of?

A teenager who lied about being raped by a taxi driver in Greater Manchester has been detained for 12 months.

A detective of the Greater Manchester Police said it well:

The man took the girl home when no other driver would and even allowed her to pay her fare the following day, yet she repaid his kindness with a wicked lie that landed him in a police cell.
He had to deal with the associated stigma of being accused of such a grave offence and we wasted a lot of time, effort and money on the investigation when it could have been better spent serving the community.

The scope of our investigation in this incident proves how thoroughly we investigate all reports of rape and I hope this girl's inexcusable actions in no way deter genuine victims from coming forward.
Add to the fact that she was drinking and doing drugs, I would guess this was an accusation used to get out of trouble with her parents.
