I noticed your 2010 blog when I was doing research on Sexual Assault prevention. I noticed that you spoke on how the Rape Culture was a fake phenomenon. I further reviewed the blog comments and many stated that they thought women were lying about rape as well as the rape culture phenomenon was just for feminists. I think that you may not have gotten the complete jist of the rape culture and why "feminists" have made it a social issue.
The 1975 documentary film Rape Culture, produced and directed by Margaret Lazarus and Renner Wunderlich for Cambridge Documentary Films, discussed prison rape in the context of a larger cultural normalization of rape. In 2000, Lazarus stated that she believed the movie was the first use of the term. The film featured the work of the DC Rape Crisis Centre in co-operation with Prisoners Against Rape Inc. It included interviews with rapists and victims as well prominent anti-rape activists. The film also explored the mass media, how film-makers, song writers, writers and magazines perpetuated attitudes toward rape.
Rape is rape and it is a violent crime. Regardless of it being a male or female victim; sexual assault occurs as an offshoot of violent behavior. During the 70s rape was still considered non-existent and women rarely spoke on being sexually assaulted. It wasn’t until the 80s that you began to see women groups speak out and raise awareness about rape. So when you say it is all based on a film about prison rape that isn’t true. The film utilized the work of the DC Rape Crisis Center as well as the organization Prisoners Against Rape because during that time, the only area that rape was acknowledged at any length was prison rape.
The objectification of women as sex objects and calling women names such as [feminist whore] are also degrading and assist in a continuum of harm. Not all people [male or female] will commit sexual assault who believe that women are garbage or whores or should know their place, or are into porn which denigrates women will commit a sexual assault... However, those that are already sexually aggressive will feed off of posts/beliefs like yours; it allows those members of society to continue to deny rape happens. It allows them to deny this especially if their own actions are questioned as that of a sexual offender and or the actions of friends/family members. I am not a feminist and neither are you; however, as a woman I fail to see how you perceive the world through the eyes of a male rapist. Those same men who are agreeing with you would probably just as easy as rape you if given the chance and or need to prove their manhood in a power play. Rape isn’t sexual in nature but is a dominating behavior. If you feel the need to exert superiority or hatred over someone, how much more dominating can you be than sexually aggressing and physically overpowering another human being? In prison rape, majority of those who commit the offense are not and would kill you for considering that they raped a man due to sexual feelings.
I am not putting you down, but please research more into this phenomenon before you speak and solidify the beliefs of males and females that rape is either non-existent or the woman crying rape or the woman's fault. Rape is a male orientated crime[90% of men commit sexual assault] and male awareness is needed in sweeping away the barriers that allow rape and the cultural acceptance of it to occur.
Why aren't you covering the civil lawsuit settlement in the Strauss-Kahn case? That falsely-accusing bitch just received a settlement of millions of dollars. I couldn't believe it- a lying false rape accuser was not only portrayed sympathetically by the media, not only was she not held accountable for falsely accusing a man of rape, but she received millions of dollars in her recent settlement. Why haven't these recent developments been covered on your site?
Every civilized society must strive to (1) eradicate heinous crimes by punishing the offenders, and (2) insure that the innocent aren't punished along with the offenders. Too often, the second half of that balance is omitted from the public discourse. Accusations of serious criminality, especially murder and sexual wrongdoing, too often are their own convictions in the high court of public opinion because the stigma is so severe. It is our mission to raise awareness about the injustices suffered by persons wrongly accused of serious criminality. Protecting the innocent from unjust harm as a result of a wrongful accusation is a hallmark of a civilized society.
