Southern Poverty Law Center Hurts Advocacy by Treating Amanda Marcotte as a Victim

In Arthur Goldwag's article about hate excesses of the so-called men's rights movement, he paints Amanda Marcotte as a victim.  This is unfortunate, and detracts from whatever legitimacy Goldwag's piece might have had. The fact that Mr. Goldwag either doesn't know about, or overlooks, hateful, inflammatory statements Ms. Marcotte has made, calls into question either his research skills or his impartiality.

The following speak for themselves.

This is from Professor KC Johnson's Web site:

"Amanda Marcotte, appointed as chief blogger to John Edwards’ presidential campaign only days after penning the following “analysis” of the case:

"'I had to listen to how the poor dear lacrosse players at Duke are being persecuted just because they held someone down and fucked her against her will—not rape, of course, because the charges have been thrown out. Can’t a few white boys sexually assault a black woman anymore without people getting all wound up about it? So unfair.'"

"When criticized for the remarks, Marcotte deleted them from her website."

This is from ABC News' Web site:

". . . Marcotte's take on the Catholic Church's opposition to birth control:

"Q: What if Mary had taken Plan B after the Lord filled her with his hot, white, sticky Holy Spirit? A: You'd have to justify your misogyny with another ancient mythology."

This is like calling David Duke a victim. She's slime, and that's all she is.

That said, I certainly do not condone any type of violence against Marcotte or any other feminist.

I do think that we all need to take a strong stand against violence.

Absolutely no violence, and no hateful rhetoric. There's been too much of that, by her and by others.

It is my impression that Marcotte isn't adequately schooled in these issues. SHe's a slick writer is all she is, and she sees black and white in a world of grays. Gray is boring to write about. Gray doesn't get your blood boiling. Marcotte strikes me as one of these people who thrives on getting her blood boiling.

She obviously despises the Catholic Church for reasons known only to her, which is a pity. I know some really slick feminist nuns who are out doing some wonderful charitable work, and Marcotte's attitude is that they must be fools and likely evil collaborators with the enemy. Believe me, these nuns share the views of a lot of Catholics, about how women need a greater role, etc. They are patient because they know the Church works very slowly, and it feels it has all the time in the world. Marcotte should hang with a few of them for a couple of days; she'd gained some insight that she would appreciate.

Her comments about the Duke lacrosse players were so over-the-top, one would have to wonder if there wasn't something else going on in her life there totally unrelated to that case.

In any event, people do change, and some of the most hateful people eventually come around. We should all pray for her, and her cyber boyfriend, little Davey Futrelle.

Pierce,

She is a nothing...
Why is she known? What has she done, ( besides obnoxious crazy ), to be famous?
I live on the Southern Coast of Africa, and our known people have actually done something to be known.....( whether good or bad )....
