Turtle Lake man cleared of false sex assault charges

From Barron News-Shield
By: Mary Glynn

60-year-old Turtle Lake man, previously accused of sexually assaulting a child in his care, has had the criminal charges against him dropped after an 11-year-old Birchwood girl admitted she made up a story that he touched her sexually.

Paul L. Burritt of 267 U.S. Highway 8 in Turtle Lake is not just "not guilty" of the accusations made against him, he is clearly "innocent" of all charges, said Polk County District Attorney Dan Steffen, who said in a phone interview Tuesday that this is "a prosecutor's worst nightmare."

It couldn't have been an easy time for the Handi-Lift transportation van driver, either. Burritt was charged in Polk County in mid-December with 1st degree child sexual assault - sexual contact with person under age of 13, and child enticement, after an 11-year-old girl alleged he brought her to his Turtle Lake home and groped her breasts and genitals over her clothing while she waited to be brought home. Burritt was transporting the child from Impact Counseling in Hayward on Wednesday, Nov. 23, to her Birchwood home. Burritt maintained his innocence when being interviewed by Turtle Lake police investigators on Dec. 7 after the child initially reported her allegations to counselors and police on Friday, Dec. 2.

Security video and GPS tracking devices confirmed that Burritt was telling the truth: he took the child from Hayward directly to Birchwood, and only made one wrong turn during the journey as he was unfamiliar with the route and was not her regular driver.

The child told police that Burritt took her to his home, let his six dogs out on the property, touched her in a sexual manner and then struck her twice in the knee when she resisted his advances and slammed the door on his hand. Burritt had showed police his uninjured hand on Wednesday, Dec. 7, two weeks after the assault was alleged to have happened.

Steffen said in other circumstances, the investigation would have continued - including gathering security footage - before any charges were brought. However, because of Burritt's occupation and ongoing contact with children, the district attorney's office believed it was necessary to act quickly in order to potentially protect other children in Burritt's care who might also be harmed, had the story proven true, Steffen said.

"When we made the charges, our alleged victim had given us detailed information, including background information that provided details" allegedly supporting the child's story, Steffen said. "Due to his occupation, we believe we had to move quickly."

When the security video and GPS data showed that what Burritt was saying was true, police investigators re-interviewed the girl, confronted her with the contrary evidence, and she admitted making the story up. Steffen said the background information the girl provided, including rough details of what the outside of his home property looked like and the number of dogs he had, came about from discussions during the bus ride between Burritt and the child. The girl also allegedly asked to use Burritt's cell phone, which had personal photos on the display screen, Burritt said.

On Wednesday, Jan. 4, all charges against Burritt were dismissed on a prosecutor's motion and Steffen is working to have them expunged from the criminal computer records. The child has been referred to juvenile authorities for possible consequences for her lying and making false allegations. A phone call to Burritt's defense attorney, Aaron A. Nelson of Door Drill & Skow in New Richmond, was not returned by press time.

Wisconsin online court records, or CCAP, show that the charges were dismissed on the prosecutor's motion with prejudice (meaning they cannot be refiled) and without court costs, but do not indicate whether the court or a victims' compensation fund will compensate Mr. Burritt for his defense attorney fees.

”Security video and GPS tracking devices confirmed that Burritt was telling the truth”

Tech to the rescue again.

Surveillance cameras all around us would seem the stuff of an Orwellian nightmare – but maybe not.

Whereas I had long been dubious of all the “Big Brother” efforts at surveillance of workers and of public areas, we have ended up seeing so many instance of innocent men being saved from false allegations, that I’m slowly warming up to now feeling a sense of comfort that cameras are all about.

Still, if you think about it, that’s actually a rather “twisted” way of looking at the world.

This IS the result of so many women making so many false allegations, and often quite frivolously.

Sometimes it’s hard to imagine why woman and girls would be doing this so regularly. You look at the last two stories covered here at FRS – this one and the previous one – and even girls ages 11 and 12 are doing it.

Seems they have simply bought into the views being taught to them in our public “edumacation” feminist indoctrination system, and believe that since “all men are bad, and do evil things” that any lie they tell which involves a man doing/trying to do something bad to them will be unquestioningly believed as face value.

Thankfully, it seems that law enforcement is finally catching up.

I sent another example in to FRS last night regarding a story from here in Colorado in which a woman claimed to have been sexually assaulted by a person posing as a cop.

The media did their best to set the female populace on edge, advising them as to what they should do if they found themselves being pulled over.

But, rather than just accept that she must be telling the truth (because, you know, it would fit right in with that “common knowledge” that all men are bad and will try to trick woman into sex or situation’s n which they can sexually assault them), they actually investigated and determined that she had made it up.

As these sorts of stories pile up (and, thanks to the False Rape Society, are archived and disseminated) it gets harder and harder for the feminists of the SGI to continue to try to ignore and/or cover-up the reality of the prevalence of false allegations.

Perhaps the rest of the SGI will soon be forced to join with RINJ in recognizing and admitting to the realities of false rape accusations and their attendant harms to innocent men and boys. Too early to hold our collective breath, but hope signs never-the-less.

It would be interesting if some valid study existed that evaluated the family, social background, and 'demographics' of adult and child false rape accusers. There are 'profiles' of various typical criminal types. Why not false rape accusers too? Such a study should go beyond hard facts and include noting if the accuser grew up or was heavily influenced by the different social-political-cultural values across the spectrum.

My guess is that females that come from a background that includes the presence of two parents, and leans traditional with limited brainwashing by the feminist gender-raunch culture have a far lower incidence of reporting FRA. I bet those same females have a lower incidence of teenage pregnancy, criminal behavior, and STDs. I'd also wager that on average those same females have a higher level of happiness and fulfillment with life than females raised otherwise.

Feminism: destroying one human being at a time when it isn't destroying whole families, communities, and countries.

slwerner,

Great comments. Thank you.

Fortunately, the nanny-police State is starting to run out of borrowed Federal Reserve Notes ie monopoly money to continue its misandrist and fascist policies.

Those surveillance cameras and other technologies that monitor our movements and actions are a double-edged sword. I am disgusted that emails and cell phone conversations are vacuumed-up and stored on government computers. On the good side, if we are home alone on our computer having a live video conversation with someone on their computer then we cannot be in some park doing an alleged crime. The computer records activity and the ISP has some sort of recorded activity in its servers.

I don't know why. I suspect it may include an irrational paranoid fear of men, acting out some twisted sexual female desire for men though not even Freud could probably explain it, the desire for attention and to publicly claim being sexually desired, etc etc. Females can be weird. When younger, I recall many girls and young women imaging that if a guy initiates chatting with them or even omg flirting that must mean the guy wants to date and have sex with them. When a student, I recall being shocked to sometimes hear later through the grapevine that I was trying to pick-up so-and-so girl when it was nothing more than an in-public social conversion for me.

Maybe we should all start wearing chastity belts and mail the key to a friend across the country to hold?

Just imagine what that man went though. Accused by a child, and a disabled one at that! If it hadn't for the tracking device, he would have been screwed.
Whatever her motivation was, she should be locked up. Just another case proving you can't trust females period.
