A follow-up to this story. In that earlier report we explained that the lawsuit filed by William McCormick III and his parents against Brown University, Marcella Dresdale (the student who accused McCormick of raping her), and Richard Dresdale (the accuser's father), has been settled on undisclosed terms.
We don't know the terms of the settlement; however, a recording of a discussion prior to the settlement has been released that, if accurate, shows the mediator for the case suggesting that the case should settle for significant money: http://www.golocalprov.com/news/brown-mccormick/
Whether Mr. McCormick got that kind of money is anyone's guess.

Settlements are sometimes likened to a bribe which the guilty party pays to the victim, to make the victim go away and shut up.
Whether this brings real closure to the victim or not (who often wants--needs--a disclosure of the truth more than money) is problematical.
It's also problematical whether any organization (like a college) which solicits donations from the public can enter into a confidential agreement--which may cover up its own wrongdoing--and also requires undisclosed sums intended for the college to be paid out elsewhere (with no oversight).
(Reminder: the "confidentiality" part of any settlement can be negotiated; it is not mandatory.)
I wonder if Daddy Warbucks still believes through rationalization that his innocent little girl was raped or if he now realizes that she really is more like his own flesh and blood Lilith?

Feminists repeatedly say that rape is a crime of power. Filing a false rape allegation magically transforms a female into becoming the center of attention, lavished with all sorts of support, and positions her into a seat or throne of power over an innocent man and that is a crime of power.
Those who seek power the most are often the most insecure and weakest their egos aside.
Probably all or certainly the vast majority of girls and women want to be her kingdom's special princess. It seems to be the nature of the female beast. In some cases of FRA, modern society's entitlement attitude knighted onto females when young (and refusal to hold females accountable) has probably encouraged that female princess fantasy into seeking strange and terrible ways to enjoy gratification.

It seems inherently problematic for a society to let a girl claim "Rape" for such trivial reasons as "She doesn't want to pay her cab fare".
It seems like this behavior (If left unchecked) would snowball into abuse.

In such cases, is a mediator ever involved?
Have you looked into what happened to his academic career after he left Brown?
What other university did he get admitted to? Was it comparable?
