A follow-up to our story here. There are now three suspects accused of making a false rape claim against a Bartlett man that resulted in him being held in jail for six days. Khaled Eleiwa surrendered to Bartlett Police on Monday and is charged with extortion, harassment, intimidation and conspiring to file a false police report. Two sisters, Angela Poindexter and Antoinette Maria Poindexter, are also charged in the case in which Angela Poindexter claimed Maher Garada tried to assault her in his home on September 28.
According to one news account: "Police documents allege that Eleiwa called Garada on Sept. 28. Eleiwa said that unless Garada paid him $7,000 by 9 p.m., Garada would be in jail and Eleiwa would make him and his family 'cry blood,' the documents claim. Angela Poindexter showed up at police headquarters several hours later, distraught and with her shirt torn down the front and the zipper on her pants ripped, according to police. She claimed she was at Garada's house watching a movie when he tried to assault her, police said."

The government needs to fix this problem of FRA, by making it a felony with a minimum of 5 years in prison for making such false accusations.
Ironically, as a con-conspirator in an extortion plot, she is (potentially) in greater jeopardy for trying to get (a mere) $7k out of Maher Garada than she is for having initiated a process which could have seen him end up in prison.
And given the actual and substantial reputational harm that her lie has caused him and his family's business, I believe this case points not only to the need for felony-level charges, but also for formal recognition of the falsely accused as victims, allowing for them to seek financial aid and making it possible for repartitional judgements to be made by the criminal courts against their accusers on their behalf.
It's unlikely that Angela Poindexter has assets worth going after, and if his business is at risk of failing, he doesn't have th capital to spare to go after a judgment against her through the civil courts. It's the sort of case which highlights the full breadth of the dearly needed legal reforms.
Why no photo of the set-up man?
They had no problem putting the falsely accused photo for everyone to see but not the set-up man.
That is fucked up.
This same man Khaled Eleiwa is now as of February 9, 2012 using this same tactic with another person. He uses a lawyer Kevin Snider to get his dirt done. When will the justice system convict this man of his wrong doing. How is he getting away with these harassing acts. He has a long history of these criminal actions on different people. This lie was told just five months ago and now he back at it. Why isn't he in jail. All american eyes should be on these cases. The Judicial System has a responsibility to protect the citizens of Memphis from this angry, lying thief.
