A comment under this story Women’s studies students propose 24-hour truce, which we discussed here, says this:
"I find this 'truce' insulting to men, to my husband, to my sons, to my father. All of whom are good, caring, strong men who care for their families and their communities. It infers all men are mean, evil, violent and rapists.
"Women worry about violence and sexual assault? A healthy fear, but not when it has been raised to an irrational level by hysteria mongers. Men are far more likely to experience violence in their lifetime than women.
"I propose we they have a 24hr truce on Man Bashing; a 24hr truce on cherry picked, manipulated statistics that paint a jaundiced picture of our World; a 24hr truce on hysteria mongering for self serving purposes;a 24hr truce on denying the problems also faced by Men.
"I want a fair and good World for myself and all members of my family, regardless their gender. This type of stunt is self-promoting, divisive and unproductive."

Amen Patsy Amen
Thank you for that comment. I wish all women were like you. Please call your local Senators and tell them to change the new revised proposed VAWA to gender neutral. It is worse than the old one.
Wonderful wonderful comment. I propose the instigation of a "Truce Day", a day for the very sentiments expressed by Patsy. Obama uses Fathers Day to criticize Fathers, Men need a new day.
Patsy's comment should be highlighted as the spark for the idea. The participation of wives and daughters would add enormous credibility and basically is crucial.
It should have a Social Justice and "everyone happy happy" feel about it, and lots of men in uniform who have served their country or community. So making any critics seem mean spirited.
Politicians and College Presidents should be asked to endorse it, preferably by a group of doting daughters. Saying no to a 10yr old who loves her father and grandpa in not good PR. Any refusal should be widely publicized.
This could be a Rosa Parks moment for the Men.
You know what's both weird and infuriating? When you broach the subject of male bashing to feminists they invariable insist that no such thing exists and that the only reason I think they have a problem with it is 1) I'm another pathetic dupe of the patriarchal smear campaign to hurt wimmin and 2)I'm a misogynist. When I bring up Dworkin I'm told either 1) She's dead and hasn't written anything for years so who cares? or 2) The only reason I think she's significant is because I'm a misogynist.
BTW, if the patriarchal campaign to intimidate women through violence is real, why is it that so many feminists appear to be in such excellent health? Shouldn't they have black eyes or missing teeth? Why are so few confined to wheel chairs or wearing casts?
And why are so few of them being raped? I mean, if we're supposed to be repressing wimmen with rape and everything shouldn't feminists be getting raped on an almost continual basis? And if we really do have a "rape culture" then where's all the reality TV programming you'd think would be there about who can rape the most gals? And where are all the action/adventure movies where Harrison Ford or Arnold Schwarzenegger rape their co-stars?
"Monitoring reality is the most insidious form of denial."
