What would a child think when he or she hears the ladies of "The Talk” laughing and making sport of the news story about a woman who cut off her husband's penis and threw it in a garbage disposal because he filed for divorce? Sharon Osbourne proclaimed, among other things, that this act of mutilation was "quite fabulous" and "hysterical," adding that she lights candles by Lorena Bobbitt's picture.
What would a child think when he or she hears the female audience laughing uproariously at the hosts' trivialization of a vile act of domestic violence?
A child would naturally assume that such mayhem is not merely tolerable but commendable. And since there is no rational justification why such violence is acceptable against a man but not a woman, a child would assume that members of either sex are fair game for such barbarism. We cannot tell our sons that they must never inflict harm on women while in the next breath we guffaw at the grievous harm inflicted on a man by his wife.
For reasons too obvious to chronicle, Sharon Osbourne's comments are indefensible by any standard. She needs to be removed from the show immediately, and the other hosts need to be publicly reprimanded. There should not be any debate about this, and if the genders were reversed, it would have already happened.

The discussion of the Catherine Kieu Becker case on the talk was incredibly sexist and repugnant. Host Sharon Osbourne called the male victim's drugging, kidnaping, and sexual mutilation "fabulous," even mouthing 'I love it'. She delightfully explored what he may have done to 'deserve it'. All he did was ask for a divorce. If a daytime talk show mocked and delighted in a man drugging his wife, tying her to a bed and cutting off her entire vulva with a kitchen knife while she was conscious and disposing of it in the garbage disposal...because she asked for a divorce, those hosts would be fired within an hour. The fact that there has not even been so much as an apology to the victim issued proves that CBS endorses sexism against men. This moral blackhole has been reported to the internet via reddit.com/r/mensrights (a community of over 24,000 readers) and several blogs around the internet. Word is spreading and unless you take action (no, an apology will not cut it), you will lose a chunk of viewers. I have however placed a complaint about the way the apoligy was done, the fact she was laughing during it and her behaviour prior to it , via the cbs site.

It really reminds me of the Bobbitt matter, which, as some of our readers know, I explored in a lengthy piece here. The overarching theme of that was how society -- really, women -- embraced the whole thing. I don't see that here, but I also don't see an appropriate response. My fear is that this might be all we get.

We need to learn how to use their language. This man was a victim of domestic violence. If the topic was presented on that show framing the man as a victim of domestic violence, then the response would have been different. The way those women thought about it and talked about it would have been different. It would have engendered immediate sympathy for the man because the use of the keyword domestic violence triggers women's sympathy. We need to learn how to use their language. We need to use their code-words to benefit us. Feminists have skillfully used our language to control how we think and react. The man was a victim of domestic violence. Those women laughed at domestic violence, but they didn't even realize that they were laughing at domestic violence because it wasn't framed as domestic violence.

My family will no longer watch ANY programming from your network following an exceptionally appalling display of misandry by the female hosts of the show "The Talk". To say that the conduct of the panel and the audience was shameful is being charitable to say the least. To laugh and make jokes over an incident where a woman, with premeditation, severed her husband's penis is morally grotesque and illustrates the depth of misandry in modern American media. CBS should be ashamed, and you should continue to be ashamed if these women remain employed. There is no excuse, justification or apology that can attone for such horrid behavior.

I'm a feminist and I do not support her statements. Misogyny doesn't justify misandry. Just as misandry doesn't justify misogyny. Feminism is about equal rights for men and women. Sexual violence should be condemned no matter the gender of the victim.

here is a thought... a child shouldn't be watching a show meant for adults first of all, and in the event that your child happens to be in the room at the moment and you neglect to put on cartoons if you feel that mature content is not what they need to watch then that is your fault for keeping the show on... now lets say that the child heard it and you just didnt get the channel changed in time... that is what parents are for... it would be your job to teach your child right from wrong just like you have to do on a daily basis.
