Compare the way Amanda Marcotte pre-judged the Anthony Weiner and Duke Lacrosse accusations
It is a chilling barometer of our times that a puerile, chronically fuming, radical feminist fanatic like Amanda Marcotte is cited as someone with an opinion worth listening to by seemingly mainstream publications like The Nation, The Seattle Post Intelligencer, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Her work is the literary equivalent of a profane hissy fit, written by a smug fifteen-year-old-girl who knows everything.
If anyone had written about Muslims or Jews the way Marcotte has written about Christians, would her name even be uttered in polite company?
I am unaware of a writer of Marcotte's renown who wears his or her hypocrisy as proudly or as blatantly as she does.
Compare how Marcotte reacted to accusations against Anthony Weiner before he confessed with the way she reacted to accusations against the Duke lacrosse players accused of rape before they were declared innocent by the North Carolina Attorney General:
"Extreme scepticism that Weiner is anything but the victim of a political hit job is more than warranted in this case, and not just because of the lack of evidence or the fact that this is being heavily promoted by Andrew Breitbart, who has a long history of disseminating falsified evidence to support his claims . . . . Nor should you be sceptical only because of the timing of this story – remarkable, if true, that this should happen right after another New York congressman resigns from office after sending an inappropriate picture to a woman online, only to see the Republicans lose his seat to a Democrat in the special election to replace him. . . . .
"No, we should be sceptical of this story chiefly because it fits a larger pattern of rightwing culture warriors ganging up and sexually harassing random young women after floating facetious insinuations about improper relationships between these women and Democratic politicians.
. . . .
"Your dating history and your looks are combed over by strange men, who are clearly wiping the drool off their mouths as they analyse the shape of your breasts and the length of your skirt for more "evidence" that you are the honeypot their hated politician has fallen into."
"I had to listen to how the poor dear lacrosse players at Duke are being persecuted just because they held someone down and fucked her against her will—not rape, of course, because the charges have been thrown out. Can’t a few white boys sexually assault a black woman anymore without people getting all wound up about it? So unfair."
Get it? The accusations against Weiner were bullshit, obviously because the target was a dear old friend of far left women's causes, and his accuser was a -- blech! -- Republican.
The accusations against the Duke lacrosse players were true, obviously because the targets were young, white, upper middle class, male jocks, and their accuser was a black woman. Any young, white, upper middle class, male jocks, and any black woman, will do just fine, thank you very much.
Andrew Breitbart has a long history of disseminating falsified evidence to support his claims. Crystal Mangum doesn't. And Mike Nifong, and the host of politicized zealots who enabled his crusade against three innocent young men, were just doing their job.
Rightwing culture warriors gang up on random young women. Leftwing ideologues never rush to judgment when an allegedly undeservedly privileged white male is accused of sexually assaulting a woman who fits one of the left's prototypical victim groups. In that case, the left patiently waits for the case against the accused male to be judged in accordance with due process.
The pathetic part is that Marcotte and her devotees feign being on the side of social justice, truth, and fairness. In reality, their sole game is to promote a politicized agenda that, too often, snags innocent men and boys in their net, just to make a point.
