Woman fined $3000 for false rape report

A young lady who falsely accused her god brother of rape has been fined $3000. Police are still unsure whether this god brother actually exists.

23-year-old Li Jieyin reported the rape to a senior police officer at the Bedok North Police Post on 14 May 2009 at 7.55 pm.  She said she had been raped by her god brother in a hotel in Geylang on 12 May.

Feeling guilty towards her actual boyfriend, she later returned to the police to confess that the whole story had been made up.

Compared to the hundreds of thousands of dollars you have to pay if you download crappy pop songs illegally.

Yup, America has her priorities in order.

At least in Singapore they issue stiff fines for false reporting.

In the US, we all too often see the misdemeanor charges dropped altogether, or resulting in little more than court-cost fines and some community service.

In a case like this one, where an apparently fictitious person is named, and no other innocent people harmed, almost any jurisdiction in the US is likely to have decline prosecution.

As to the story above, it's not clear if the women had even had sex with anyone, although her guilt towards a boyfriend certainly suggests that her rape lie was for an alibi for some illicit sexual activity she had wished to hide from that boyfriend.

Of course, since we see such a motivation in-play so often, it also makes a good deal of sense that this was yet another case of a cheater crying rape when she feared exposure.

[since someone will no doubt try to bring it up, there is nothing to suggest that the police in anyway encourage, supported, nor "allowed" this FRA; nor is there any way for the police in Singapore to have profited from this incident. This is just another case of a woman freely choosing to make an FRA that she felt suited her immediate needs - same as most every other FRA ever made.]
