Tell Congress to Stop Treating Your Son Like a Presumed Criminal: Read and Sign the Petition

Click here to read and sign: Reject the Proposed SaVE Act Absent Amendments to Protect the Presumptively Innocent

To our readers: U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) has introduced legislation to combat sexual violence on college campuses called The Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (SaVE Act) (S.834), cosponsored by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA). It amends Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. There is so much wrong with this proposed Act that we could have made our petition into a mini-novel. We decided to focus on two areas which most people would agree are problems.  We also stayed clear of divisive discussion of rampant false rape claims, the underreporting canard, etc. and instead discussed only matters that are not open to serious debate.

Forgive my skepticism. I spoke with somebody about on-line petitions.

(I already signed the Mary N. Kellett petition).

He told me that online petitions can actually do more damage than good.

He sited a case where F&F made an online petition, and it made things worse, because the person they were petitioning actually "laughed" at how few signatures they got - and the bad behavior simply increased.

Your thoughts?

SC, we've had posts that have caught fire with tens of thousands of unique visitors in one day. I don't know whether this one will, but I did it more as an exercise in articulating my position on this in a way that should not upset anyone outside the radical fringe left. I can always withdraw the petition after we see what happens.

But, hey, you signed Paul's petition, I sure hope you sign mine.

ScareCrow said...

Yeah, OK.

Signing it now - just a little discouraged as of late.

P.S. on Friday - for what it's worth, I'll mirror this on my blog.

ScareCrow, thanks. You won't be disappointed in the petition, I don't think. I defy my harshest critics (and there are many) to attack it with a plausible argument.

This supposes that the bad behavior would not have increased sans petition, which I do not believe is a “knowable” quantity. I’d judge it rather that the petition failed to generate enough signatures to dissuade an increase in bad behavior. It likely would have been the same with out that particular petition even being brought forth.

To me, signing such a petition is really a “no lose” situation. At worst, it will have zero effect (same as no petition), but it might be able to generate a positive effect.

If nothing else, it allows for the presentation of the dissenting case to a law which would otherwise tend to be viewed as something that “all reasonable people would agree with”. Short of articulating a sound and logical case against it, that is what the impression will become.

Fuck this website. Not yours Pierce, I love it and read often. Fuck that petition site though. I tried to sign to petition and the webpage went crazy. I want to sign it but I am not sure I trust the site.

I will try again though. I do worry about my name ending up in a government database connected to these issues. What is to stop a feminist who works for him or on this from getting the petition and our names and then using it against us in some way.

One of my ex gfs from when I was 19, her mother used to brag about working in the courthouse. This woman had been married and divorced 3x and parentally alienated my gf from her father. This woman would brag to me, thinking that because I was a dem and called myself a feminist allie at the time that I would agree with her, about intentionally losing CS documents and visitation documents and any other type of form that men might benefit from.

She was just one bitch in one small town but she screwed over many, many men from 'accidentally' misplacing important documents.

The government makes huge amounts of money on VAWA and other anti male legislation.

Just think of court costs in a false rape/abuse allegations alone in America. That is probably millions that the court makes.

Oh well, I will sign it. As long as the website works this time, maybe you can contact the operator.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Signed. Let's hope it has an impact.

Thanks, slw.

Thanks, TK -- I only used that site because Paul used it. I can't stand temperamental sites.

I don't think signing this will get anyone in trouble - that's how uncontroversial it is. I limited it to things that are really mainstream thinking.

Signed it.

Yeah, I'd actually like to see the petition push for more changes (the person accusing should not have the right of appeal given that they already have three different avenues for making an accusation: criminal courts, university tribunals, civil courts). But this petition could just go mainstream. I'll keep you guys posted, but I have been working on getting this information to some journalists and professors who might be interested in doing some digging and writing.

I am still trying to sign the site...it has crashed three times on me. Maybe I need to change my browser settings or someting. I get to the last part, and either hit save or add a message, and then the text moves up and the scroll bar locks up...annoying to say the least.

I have had change.org go bonkers on me a few times.

I contacted them (change.org) - and they said some Chinese hackers were bombarding it because of some Chinese dissident or political figure.

So - TrollKing - do not be discouraged!

Keep trying, It'll come back soon enough.

Phone calls to human beings are MUCH more effective, especially when facts are presented.

There ARE strategies that work, and it takes such small effort compared to undoing the harm if this gets passed.

These guys are worried about votes, and "they" have them by the ear right now, even though the legislators damn well KNOW this is evil and wrong.

They also know their own sons don't have anythign to worry about, which is why the roll over and appease.

A few choice, well spoken facts and words have worked miracles.

Our lives, our son's lives, are at stake here.

We got to see the Birth Certificate today...miracles DO happen...

TK,

It did the same to me, but it did allow me to click the sign button. Then I had to wade through the other petition requests to finally see how many had signed.

Let's tell the Speaker of the House about this site.

Human-Stupidity.com said...

You should put a widget on your site that links to the vote

Compare http://Human-Stupidity.com

I permanently have a change.org petition on my page (with due changes to put nofollow links on it as change.org sucks and kicked me out for criticizing feminist posts).

Check out the widget.

I would love to see how the feminists react to this. My guess is they will left with the usual, "rape is rampant, false claims are rare" without ever addressing the issue.

Pierce,

There is a website that is ran by House Speaker Johm Boehner called America speaking out. I clicked on "open mic" and left a message about men's issues. Perhaps you can discuss FRA's. It's worth a shot.

Have faith brothers..The tipping point is soon approaching. "Gender-raunch" and their war on hetero-sexual males has been disturbingly effective, and the hetero-sexual girls are starting to feel "theres something wrong here, where are all the guys??"
Gender-Raunch has been encouraging gays, bisexuals, transvestites, and women for around 20 years now, while at the same time, attacking the heterosexual boys with "faulty and inflammatory manufactured misinformation." Well folks, gender-raunch has won,hetero-boys are being purged from higher education; but the "Duke lacrosse girls" are starting to get pissed off at gender-raunch.
