There is also the fact that Haywood will(albeit unfairly) grossly distracted for the next few months trying to reclaim some vestige of his left and would be unable to devote his complete attention to coaching according to Pitt's regent.

Another good question is what are the laws like in that area? I know in some places they have to arrest someone if they're called out.
It was a American gender Raunch lynching!!
The gender Raunch establishment feel that sports is a way for heterosexual male bonding, and will assume any pretext to attack this bastion of heterosexuals.
If you were to examine the makeup of "American gender raunch", one would see very, very, very few athletes.
The gender / Raunch establishment want our children fat, sickly, out of shape, and on some kinda drugs, as long as these kids don't giggle during their sexual re-education classes.
We also all need to acknowledge that the unspoken intent of the gender/raunch crowd is the complete annihilation of everything male and heterosexual, including the family, sports and any white male patriotism.
Anything that empowers straight men ifuriates the "progressive" movement.
These are people who have suffered some perceived slight or insult from traditional society and who have "empowered" their shabby selves by attacking all things traditional.
Interestingly, these cowards and childish dolts will have their moment of reckoning when, on their death-beds, they are forced to confront the horror they inflicted on so many decent innocent men.
