A 17-year-old girl has been given a 60 hour suspended community service sentence for falsely claiming she had been drugged, raped and made pregnant by an ex boyfriend last year.
The boy spent four days in custody after the girl made the accusations. It was not until April 2010 that the girl finally admitted she had made up the story.
The public prosecution department had called for a one month suspended jail term.

"60 hour suspended community service sentence"
Really? Suspending a "community service" sentence?
Takes it down from a "slap on the wrist" to a "tap on the wrist".
She's 17 years old, that's more than old enough to know better, and expect to be punished for something as serious. And, her victim was in custody for four days. Plus, as one of the comments tot eh linked new item puts it:
"I'm sure the victim will recover from his four days in custody. The months of being publicly regarded as a rapists is another matter altogether.
The court's pathetic slap on the wrist for an attempt to maliciously destroy another person's life seems designed to encourage such false accusations." - otropogo
This one surely calls for the boy to sue her and her family for the harm he has surely suffered from her lie.
If the criminal courts won't mete out nay punishment, it's going to be necessary to ask that the civil courts do. It might even be more effective in hitting them where they'll really hurt to get a larger civil judgment out of her family than what a criminal court could do (given her "juvenile" status).
Short of a civil award as a punishment, this particular lack of punishment, as the commenter notes, "seems designed to encourage such false accusations."
The system needs a lot of work.
Stop counterfeit rape.
Talk to local politicians. Vote for candidates that support making false rape a felony.
if a woman had lied about rape and get 60 hour community service sentence, then a man, who had raped a woman should also get 60 hour community service sentence.
