Australian Matthew Moorhouse sues luxury New York hotel over false rape claims

AN AUSTRALIAN businessman falsely accused of raping a maid at a luxury boutique hotel in New York is now suing the hotel for $US10 million.

Matthew Moorhouse, 43, from Sydney, claims that the Standard Hotel's racy atmosphere contributed to the false charges against him.

Prosecutors had claimed that Mr Moorhouse had sexually assaulted one of the Standard's maids on November 9 and suggested that he had booked into the hotel specifically because of its reputation for kinky, exhibitionist sex.

The hotel's floor-to-ceiling windows are well known for allowing nude guests to put on a show for pedestrians on the nearby park.

Mr Moorhouse said that the maid had lied after he caught her rifling through his bag and he was acquitted of the charges in July.

He filed suit last week in Manhattan Supreme Court.

The Standard Hotel declined to comment.

Anon,

Can you tell me where you got the crack addict hooker line from the article? Or did you get it from another source? Please provide a link for us if you would.

We really need people to stop with this type of thing, with no supporting information. I'm going to let the comment stand, but I would ask that those types of comments please stop. You are hurting our mission.

Thanks.

...also, I think you mean 'wonder', not 'wander', and what exactly does trying to 'knifong' a man involve?

Knifong: a verb, to try to prosecute innocent men and boys for rape (when no rape happened) in order to gain political or social capital.
To pull a Knifong, for example: as a representative of law enforcement, if the girl making the false rape accusation has inconsistencies in her story, to "Knifong" an innocent guy, is having law enforcement coach the girl to keep her story straight.

For clarity...

There is no K in Nifong.
