WASHINGTON – The wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas called Anita Hill to ask her to apologize for accusing the justice of sexually harassing her, 19 years after Thomas' confirmation hearing spawned a national debate about harassment in the workplace.
Virginia Thomas said in a statement Tuesday that she was "extending an olive branch" to Hill, now a Brandeis University professor, in a voicemail message left over the weekend.
In a transcript of the message provided by ABC News, which said it listened to the recording, Thomas identified herself and then said, "I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband. So give it some thought and certainly pray about this and come to understand why you did what you did. OK, have a good day," Thomas said.
When Hill heard the voicemail, she contacted Brandeis' public safety office, which in turn informed the FBI.
"I certainly thought the call was inappropriate," Hill, who worked for Clarence Thomas in two federal government jobs, said in a statement released Tuesday night.
Read the rest here.
She contacted public safety? Seriously? And they contacted the FBI?
Talk about an overreaction. But it tells us a lot about a person.

Gender feminist lynching!!
Gender feminists rule by mob/klan type tactics.
American law enforcement now "manufacture faulty and inflammatory" statistics because they think they are "just protecting women", and Gender/ Raunch feminist quack scholars "Empower" themselves off promulgating these manufactured statistics to their carte blanche students.
American law enforcement has not yet realized that modern feminism has morphed into "Gender / Raunch" feminism, which only vaguely resembles any discussion of womens equality.

She thought the call was innapropriate? What she did was inappropriate. She owes him an apology and an explaination.
Perhaps "appropriate" would have been Clarence Thomas himself contacting Anita Hill privately.
Don't you think?
"Mrs." Thomas publicly pronouncing herself the one "extending an olive branch" by publicly calling for an apology?
By reputation and actions of both parties involved in the years since this happened, there is no evidence or reason to believe either one of them over the other.
If Anita Hill had sold her story to the Enquirer and gotten a boob job with the proceeds I would agree that there is some reason to doubt her story. If she had gone on to run for political office, I would have presumed she did it for political reasons as well.
Her behavior and reputation have remained impeccable. She is clearly not a prosititute or political puppet.
Clarence Thomas has certainly kept it in check all these years without any "Tiger Woods-esque" surprise revelations if he were indeed guilty. His reputation is impeccable as well.
Mrs. Thomas just MAY be opening a can of worms with this public grandstanding. There certainly isn't any reason to go back and beat that dead horse without some new revelation or evidence.
May the truth will out.

"Don't you think?"
If you think that spouses don't inject themselves into matters concerning their their other halves all the time, you are delusional. Inappropriate? In what universe are you residing?
In any event, you expended nine paragraphs addressing a subject different than the one "Pierce" raised in his post. Anita Hill's overreaction is indicative of someone who likely blew innocent chatter by now-Justice Thomas wholly out of proportion.
Go troll somewhere else.

It's great that you can know who is telling the truth in a he said/she said case. Perhaps if you'd read this blog you'd understand why most of the rest of us don't share your certainty. For me, I'll side with J.C. Alvarez on Ms. Hill. If you don't remember her, see here: http://cti.itc.virginia.edu/~ybf2u/Thomas-Hill/1013a05.html
Hey, Blogger is eating my comments again.
Try again: I thought the old feminist dragons who supported Anita Hill were long dead. Guess I was wrong.

My comments are disappearing as well.
Out of the blue Anita Hill gets a stalker call, and it was "inappropriate" to turn it over to the campus police? Who thought it was appropriate to turn it over to the civilian police? Who thought it was appropriate to turn it over to the FBI for verification?
20 years and 8,000 valium later Mrs. Thomas thinks it's appropriate to drunk dial Professor Hill to demand an apology?
A "stalker call"? Get a grip on reality. Someone says something to you that you don't like, and they're a stalker. A fine barometer of the times we're living in, isn't it?
Yeah, and the "drunk dial" crap is the typical speculation of someone quick to crucify any male on the loopy word of any woman.
P.S. I enjoyed the reference to 20 years. Tell me, how many years did Ms. Hill wait before prancing in front of the television cameras to tell her sordid tale?

If this deranged commenter cannot be banned for some unknown reason, in the very least could these tiresome and repetitive comments simply be removed? Would that be too difficult?
The truth always makes the FRS a little "edgy". Also, betcha Clarence is completely embarrassed by his wife's actions.
To the anonymous poster that wants my comments banned and removed..F U, u little deviant.
Gender / raunch feminism is the epitome of societal decline and decay.
"The truth always makes the FRS a little 'edgy'."
And what about bullshit like yours? Does that make FRS a little edgy?
The "anonymous" feminazi who posts here every day absolutely has to be a paid activist.
Otherwise no one would bother to visit and prolifically post offensive and ridiculous man-hating tripe DAILY, often multiple times a day.
Who does that on a site they completely disagree with?
And for MONTHS on end....
...yet another paid misinfo op.
"The truth always makes the FRS a little "edgy". "
Oh God....the Truth! Did a burning bush tell you all this? And the fact that your message is being rejected proves that oyu are a rela prophet, right?
I wouldn't be surprised if we hear in the next couple years that the Thomas' have filed for divorce. I bet this lady is secretly blaming Ms. Hill for the demise of her relationship. This should be pretty interesting.
Hill's actions after the call are misconstrued by this post. Hill contacted security because she initially thought the call was some sort of prank. She did not know it was actaully V. Thomas. Given the high profile and polarizing nature of the events it was related to, I would think Hill acted completely rationally by contacting the authorities.
"The truth always makes the FRS a little "edgy". "
Nope. What makes us "edgy" is twisted people like you who perceive truth in lies.
Clarence, I believe you.
I guess everyone who disagrees with 12:16 is twisted?
I am here as a supporter of False Accusation victims, but I believed Anita Hill then, and I do now.
This wasn't a false rape accusation.
Don't impose your politicking on me.
I support victims of false rape accusations, but i still think something happened in the Duke rape case.
I support victims of false rape accusations, but i still think "something happened" at the Hofstra gang rape.
I support victims of false rape accusations , but i still think something happened in the latest "mass rape for ruffies" media promulgated false rape accusation.
American law enforcement has not yet realized that modern feminism has morphed into "Gender / Raunch" feminism, which only vaguely resembles any discussion of womens equality.
Feminism is not about equality and never has been. It's about female supremacy and male annilation.

I support the Duke accused, but that does nto mean I believe EVERY accusation is false.
I believe the Hofstra accused were innocent - that does not mean I believe every man accused is innocent.
Maybe it's because I believe truth over politics or gender.
MRS. T making that phone call was stupid and inappropriate. I'm embarassed for her and her husband.
I'm sure you disagree, but please. Don't have your wife call me.
