A follow-up to this story: a college rape liar named Laura Gruver has been given probation for a fabrication that might have sent an innocent man to prison for many years and completely destroyed his life. The news story reporting this is set forth at the bottom of this post.
I think the words of columnist Bevin Theodore, who wrote about this liar after her fabrication came to light, need to be taken seriously:
Women receive all sorts of advice on how to keep themselves safe from would-be attackers -- don't walk alone in dark alleys, lace your car keys through your fingers so you're ready to strike an attacker, don't be afraid that someone will think you are mean because you refuse to help them.
While it is always wise to be prudent and keep oneself out of harm's way, perhaps it is time to talk about the men who need to protect themselves from women like Gruver. Men need to be aware that there are women twisted enough to make up such a story. It is time to tell sons, brothers, male friends, anyone we care about, that men need the buddy system just as much as women, if only to provide an alibi.
What if someone had actually been arrested in this case? Gruver, in her obviously mentally disturbed state, probably would have fingered any suspect to keep the attention on herself. And her "attacker" would have been hit with much more than a misdemeanor charge, while I bet Gruver won't spend a day behind bars. While she must have a severe psychological imbalance to concoct such a horrible tale, that doesn't exculpate her.

I agree with the sentiments expressed above that men need to devise ways of protecting themselves, but I don't think a buddy system would work. The woman would just accuse the male and his buddy of rape, and the police would automatically believe her and arrest them -- unless they could produce corroborating evidence of their innocence (because when we scrapped the requirement that she corroborate her rape claim, too many in law enforcement took that to mean the rule had been flipped on its head, requiring the male to produce corroborating evidence in order to keep from being arrested and tried for rape).
Here is the news story:
Woman who lied about ESU rape sentenced to probation
Laura Gruver, 23, of Bethlehem, was sentenced Thursday to one year of probation after admitting she lied to police about being raped Aug. 13 on East Stroudsburg University campus.
Gruver, who since has written letters of apology to ESU and police, also was ordered to continue with mental health counseling and perform 50 hours of community service.
Gruver told police she was walking to her car in the parking lot behind the Dansbury Commons cafeteria when a man grabbed her from behind, put a knife to her throat, forced her into the woods, raped her and then fled the scene. She described her attacker as young and white with brown hair, brown eyes and a tan and wearing a blue rain slicker.
She then reported the incident, saying her underwear and glasses were missing and that she believed they were still in the wooded area. Police found a pair of glasses and a pair of women’s underwear at the location where she said she had been raped.
Police went on to generate a sketch of the suspect based on her description before she finally admitted lying about the whole thing. She said she had made up the story to have something to take the focus off the personal problems she had been having.

There is absolutely no way to protect yourself from false rape accusations. Sure, there are plenty of things you can do to make it MORE likely that you are falsely accused -- drunk sex being the most obvious.
But any woman -- no matter how low her character -- can falsely accuse any man in America, even if he never had sex with her, even if the pretend rape *happened* twenty years ago; and although the case might be thrown out, you will still suffer for years as a result.
That's the system we're living under, and men can't afford to kid themselves that there is any solution other than sending false rape accusers to prison and raising the bar substantially when it comes to requiring proof before convicting a man of rape. As long as her word is enough we will be victims.
Ditto.
THERE IS NO DEFENCE AGAINST A LIAR.
My granny knew that.
The ONLY POSSIBLE answer is to pound these liars into the dirt, under the public spotlight, as a deterrent.
Yeah, what else can we do? We can go online and insist that the liars be punished, and raise doubts when dubious accusations are made against men -- but obviously we shouldn't hold our breath waiting for anything to get done. We can't break the law; vigilantism is a road for the doomed.
Until somebody becomes interested in enforcing the law it's hard to know what else to do. We can complain, but our society is really good at ignoring the legitimate grievances of men.
I think a precaution better than the buddy system is for one to always keep ur cell phone on you. For example even having certain missed/out going calls may not be enough proof that you were calling/doing something else at the time of the b*llshit accusation, cell phones can be used to gage WHERE as well as when you made a call. As well as if you know that you were in a public place w/ potential security cameras, know how to retrace ur steps.
Along w/ that i simply think ALL men should record/film their sexual encounters, or at least casual encounters.

"She said she had made up the story to have something to take the focus off the personal problems she had been having."
So basically, making a false rape accusation is a recreational activity?
Do we have a victim who was falsley accused in this story?
Anon at 6:32: the stories don't always tell us. And it doesn't make any difference because even if there was no victim, that fact was simply fortuitous. We've seen countless cases in the past couple of years where a woman or girl tells an "innocent" rape lie only to have law enforcement target some hapless male she never specifically intended. Once unleashed, a rape lie can't be controlled (aside from a recantation), and it can lead to terrible results for some innocent man or boy.
You're correct in that a buddy system would quite certainly be worse, in terms of the amount of damage done, than the status quo. However, you're wrong - and you should know that you're wrong - when you simply suggest that a man might be able to get out of a rape charge if he was able to provide corroborating evidence of his innocence. It's not been five years since three very innocent college men - who had corroborating evidence of their innocence - were falsely accused and had their corroborating evidence ignored because of a system that encourages corruption. There simply is no protection for men. All that we can hope for is that somebody who actually can help when we're in such a situation actually does help.
That makes some sense to me, but if fra's are so prevalent, why do these accusations matter? How does it ruin the reputation of men and boys when we all know the lies are false accusations?
8:03: I'm astonished that anyone would ask such a stupid question (I mean, I know you're probably a feminist drone, but that's pretty goddamn ignorant even for one of you).
Obviously, many, many people do not understand that this is just a bunch of lies. A great many people always, always, ALWAYS believe the liar, no matter what.
The harm caused by a false accusation is ALWAYS permanent and ALWAYS catastrophic.
But you already knew that, didn't you? You adorable creature.
And you can cure yourself of that delusion by visiting the Baltimore Sun, where the feminist overlords insist that rape accusations are always true -- even when the police say they're non-credible!
So much for everybody acknowledging the false rape epidemic!
About the 'buddy system,' I do hope that it has occurred to everybody that the feminists would cry out that men were helping each other get away with rape, not protecting each other from false accusations.
Remember: FRAs don't even have an entry in the Politically Correct Encyclopedia of Everything.
Do we have a victim who was falsley accused in this story?
***
Filing a false rape accusation without naming a specific victim is like firing a gun into a crowd: it's a heinous crime even if you don't hit anybody.
J.B.: There's no way that any of our readers could have read the 1,500 plus posts on this site, but I've written about this several times. There ARE certain things men can do to make false rape claims less unlikely. There is no fool-proof way of living that will completely prevent it.
As for corroborating evidence, I've written about this extensively. The word of a male friend won't do it; a video, unbiased witnesses, emails indicating consent, or other strong evidence almost always will.
One of the men who was exonerated by the Innocence Project had no fewer than thirteen people give him an alibi. The jury rejected it and falsely convicted him anyway.

Translation: as a man, if you get caught up in the system, you're SCREWED! You have NO rights whatsoever...
"As for corroborating evidence, I've written about this extensively. The word of a male friend won't do it; a video, unbiased witnesses, emails indicating consent, or other strong evidence almost always will."
It would in court, but merely being accused of rape, even if that accusation is not made to the police, can wreck a man's life.
It wouldn't "do it in court." You know he's a lawyer, right?
Women that do this should be named and shamed for life...
What happened to the legal system that is paid to protect the innocent??
It was perverted by pork dollars from the feds.
