An Oakland University student admitted to police that she falsely reported she had been raped by two men to get attention and support from her boyfriend, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.Now Jessica Joe is facing a felony charge herself.
According to the sheriff’s office, the 21-year-old Detroit resident was arraigned Tuesday in 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills on a count of filing a false report of a felony and was released on a $10,000 personal bond.
Joe, police said, reported on April 24 that she was walking out of the CVS Pharmacy at Adams and Walton, when she was grabbed by two men and dragged into a van parked next to her car. She told police that the men pulled her clothing off and one man drove around, while the other man raped her and was eventually pushed out of the van in the lot, according to the sheriff’s office.
Joe had said she struggled and fought to get away, but had no marks or bruises on her body, police said.
Police said detectives checked the store’s videotape at the entrance and found that Joe was never seen entering or leaving the store and employees at the CVS said no one fitting her description had been in the store.
Joe was re-interviewed and admitted she made a false report.
According to a news release, the sheriff’s office plans to seek full reimbursement for all costs incurred in the investigation if Joe is convicted, claiming the “false report required 45 plus hours of numerous patrol deputies and detectives time, many who were called in on overtime believing two rapists were on the loose.”
Oakland University police also had warned students because of the claim.
“When someone falsely claims a kidnapping and sexual assault it makes it that much harder on real assault victims and wastes precious police resources,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard is quoted saying in the news release. “It also strikes fear in the community based on a lie.”

What about the men that would have undoubtedly been treated as dogs had they found someone that fit the descriptions? What about the men that were undoubtedly stopped and questioned during their investigation?
