16-year-old in youth detention center after fabricating weekend assault story
A teenage girl who reported being raped over the weekend is behind bars on charges of making false reports, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York. The 16-year-old girl told police she had been abducted and held against her will at Howard Johnson's hotel, but after investigating, detectives learned the girl's story was untrue.
In initial reports, the teen listed two males by name as having abducted and sexually assaulted her, but neither were charged. Further investigation revealed the girl had not even been at the hotel, but made up the story as an excuse for her whereabouts during that time, he said.
"It was determined that the story was fabricated by the juvenile and no crime had in fact been committed," York said.
The teen was charged with unruly juvenile and false report of a crime, which are misdemeanors, he said. However, a third charge — making false statements and writings — is a felony, he said.
The girl was arrested on the charges and taken to Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center "to await further judicial proceedings," he said.
The teen is not identified due to her juvenile status. The men she accused of abducting and assaulting her were not identified by the Statesboro Herald because they had not been charged with a crime.

Acceptable.
"The men she accused of abducting and assaulting her were not identified by the Statesboro Herald because they had not been charged with a crime."
Finally, a newspaper gets it right! There's no need to identify men who haven't committed any crime. Now, if only more media outlets would adopt such a sane and sensible policy.

More states need to follow this example (from Georgia, I believe) and allow for a felony level punishment for false reporting - even for juveniles.
After a few recent LE screw-ups, it's good to see them get one near-perfect.
It's GOOD that the men weren't named since they committed no crime.
It would be BEST if they were not named even if charged with the crime.
Innocent until proven guilty isn't the same as innocent but covered in the stench of society's approbation.
She is now a dangerous to the staff and other inmates of that facility, as long as we have a system that takes all rape accusations seriously.
Something needs to be done about this.
Question for you all:
If a women decides she wants to secretly leave her husband and children and go live with her boyfriend, but then starts missing her kids (with Mother's Day approaching), what can she do to get herself out of the mess she's made?
I suppose you all know where this ones going already, but, she can just claim her boyfriend kidnapped and raped her, of course.
OT, but this is worth discussing: why haven't some MRAs made a real push when it comes to merchandizing? We need to make our issues and retro-imagery the new cool.
For example, somebody should be selling posters and T-shirts of the Duke "castrate!" banner, with huge red letters reading NEVER AGAIN.
We should also be selling 1950's style images of a cool traditional dad coming home to a hot meal, children sitting happily at the table; it could read, PATRIARCHY: IT WORKS.
I think there is a vast cultural well that is longing to be filled with male-positive, anti-liar, pro-family imagery, but usually when I do an image search under "Men's rights" I come up with a feminist saying, "Men's rights: get them the medication they need."
We might need to sell our IMAGES before we can sell our IDEAS.
I'm in pittsburgh and one of the big stories is this 11 year old boy that allegedly killed his Dad's girlfriend.
They show his name and face on tv CONSTANTLY.
So it's a huge double standard when they do not name a 16 year old because she is underage.
If you are a little white boy at age 11 you are old enough to have your name and mug shot on tv constantly though.
ya mean like this one?

just do a google image search on "misogyny"
2 birds with one stone, you get the image you want, you also get advance guarantee it pushes their buttons..

some nice ones there
I'm glad they stopped this little "siren".
This story has a better ending than the 18 year old boy that got beat to death in his sleep with a baseball bat when a girl falselly accussed him of rape.
It is a perversion of our law enforcement community to not charge false rape accussers.

Are feminists saying rape = assault = rape? Are they, and law enforcement equating the two with a feminist/VAWA brush?
I only ask as it appears they both are equating the two.
