Two women are now facing felony charges after filing a false rape report this weekend in Fort Smith. Police arrested 19-year-old Heather Smith and her 21-year-old roommate Jeni Melton, after they claimed two unidentified men came into their apartment and raped Smith.
Police were called to Roosters Bar on Garrison Avenue around 4:41 a.m. Saturday. Officers spoke with Smith and Melton about the alleged incident.
The women told police they had left Roosters around 3 a.m. and shortly after they arrived at their residents on Birnie Avenue, two men came into their home uninvited. According to the report, one suspect pinned Melton to the floor, while the second raped Smith in a back bedroom.
The women told police after the two men left they were afraid to stay at the apartment, so they began walking down N. 6th. While walking, they stopped a taxi cab for help. When they entered the cab, they found both suspects inside. The women said they were dropped off at the corner of 8th and Garrison and called police.
Police spoke with Razorback Cab Company and found that the suspects were dropped off at a residence on S. 24th. Officers responded to the home and glanced in the front window, locating the two suspects asleep on a couch in the living room. Officers noticed two .44 caliber revolvers and a semi-automatic .45 caliber handgun on the coffee table next to them, and notified the SWAT team. A search warrant was executed on the residence and the two men inside were arrested.
After several interviews and a 12-hour investigation, both men were released and will not face any charges. An additional witness to the incident came forward and police discovered major discrepancies in the initial allegations.
Smith and Melton were re-interviewed, arrested and charged with Filing a False Police Report, which is a felony. Both are being held in the Sebastian County Detention Center without bond.

At least the men were not named and it seems they got a fair shake even if it did take 12 hours.
"Smith and Melton were re-interviewed, arrested and charged with Filing a False Police Report, which is a felony. Both are being held in the Sebastian County Detention Center without bond."
Excellent.
In how many states is that a felony?
Also, from reading the article I have no idea why they made up their story.
I wish my false rape accuser was charged.
@ Scott
I hear you bro, I also hear all the bullshit about lack of resources...
As long as there are enough resources to imprison men for not paying alimony, there are enough resources.

I LOVE the "felony" and "without bond" part!!!

Given the guns found with the two men, the first thing that comes to mind is that I'd guess what we have here is a case of a couple of skanks (did you see their pictures in the video) who decided they'd like to hook-up with a couple of thugs; only to later regret that decision.
The second though I had was it might have been an attempt at revenge for something (a drug deal gone bad, perhaps) the two men had done to anger the two women.
I either case, the very first discrepancy that "leapt" out at me was the part about them hailing a cab, in which the two men just happened to be riding, and then getting into that cab with them (as if one wouldn’t find any other passengers inside until after they were also inside the cab).
All-around “fishy” story from the start. But, interesting that Arkansas has a felony statute for false reports. Also mentioned, but not explained in the story is why these two women should be held without bail. I’d have to imagine that there is something much more than just a false report in play here, but the media can be so very unreliable when it comes to getting full and accurate stories out.

Not good enough. There should be two felony charges here. Falsifying a rape should be a felony in all 50 states. This has got to change.
In Kansas, false rape acussations are not tolerated. Gender feminist perverts do not have a strong hold on society and the legal system there, like they do in the NorthEastern states.
"is a case of a couple of skanks (did you see their pictures in the video)"
Based on their mugshots they don't look that bad...
"In Kansas, false rape acussations are not tolerated."
That's good. Although it seems that this took place in Arkansas, not Kansas.
When I first became interested in false rape claims I just assumed that it was treated as a serious crime to file a false rape claim.
I was totally sickened when I found out that in the vast majority of states it's effectively legal.
There is no question that it should be a felony and carry a stiff prison sentence and as long as there is as sex offender registry you should also have to register for life.
I must repectfully disagree about the possession of guns indicating a criminal situation.
It is my right as a United States Citizen to bear arms and is protected by the Constitution. It is my right to own a weapon for protection and for any other legal purpose.
I will fight to maintain that right!

I completely agree. Although the description of several handguns left out on a coffee table sounded like less than perfectly responsible gun ownership.
What I don't get is that liberal feminists are generally in favor of banning guns. If they are so concerned about violence against women, wouldn't they be in favor of women being able to defend themselves? All I know, if I were a female college student who honestly thought there was a one-in-four chance of being raped, I would be walking around with more EDC than Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.
I'm also against misdemeanor domestic violence, or the mere accusation of domestic violence, being treated as a felony in regard to gun ownership. I'm also opposed to "may issue" states that accept "self-defense" as a valid reason for a permit to carry for women, but not for men.

But, CBGirl, I'd guess that as a responsible gun owner you don't leave your weapons in plain sight (through a window) as you sleep on the couch.
I meant no disrespect to good, honest citizens who own guns, but, when a people are sleeping on couches with guns on the table beside them, it is highly suggestive of something other than law abiding citizens enjoying the exercise of their 2nd Amendment rights.
Guns must be treated with respect all times. They are not toys.
And there is no such thing as an unloaded gun.
My first husband was in Law Enforcement, we had guns in every room and a shotgun by the door.
Now we live in the country and until the FRA, I had a pistol on my side of the bed and the proverbial shotgun by the front door, which by the way, the cops didn't touch. We are in the boonies where everyone has loaded weapons but no one locks their doors either.
Thank you for clarifying your statement slv. I am one of those ultra conservatives :-)

The 2 women were released yesterday on bond and I have a feeling that the bar, Webby D's on Garrison in Fort Smith will be in some trouble for allowing a 19 yr old child in the bar. It is said she did not have a fake id and that the bouncer let her in because he knew her.
I also have a good feeling that Steven Neal David and Thomas Raymond McDaniel are still under investigation for other things that happened that night.
This whole situation is sad and i feel bad for the families.
Slwerner, that was not right to call the 2 little girls skanks. If you think they look bad, just wait until you see the two men involved. That was a mugshot and who looks good besides Paris Hilton in a mugshot? LOL These girls normally do not look like that and you have to remember they went through a lot after being roughed up by 2 thugs, going to the hospital and rape crisis center. Even the crisis center feels the men are guilty of something. If you want all the details, go to the fort Smith Police Station and ask for reports for Heather Erin Smith, Jeni Melton, Steven Neal David and Thomas Raymond McDaniel. More of your questions will be answered.
