Someone is really going to have to explain this one to me. If the sexual act was consensual, then how could there be any claim of rape, and why if it was consensual, would the investigation still be ongoing and charges possible? Something here smells really wrong. Any of our readers from this area that has an idea of what this is about?

On Thursday, Prince George's County police said a female student who reported being raped on the campus of Prince George's Community College had "ended up recanting the rape itself." Now, the police are recanting.
Capt. Misty Mints, one of the department's top spokespeople, said Friday the case is "still under investigation" and the woman "absolutely did not recant the rape."
"There was sexual contact that was consensual, but she is not recanting the fact that she was indeed raped," Mints said.
The suspect, she said, has been released, but charges are possible.
Officer Evan Baxter, another spokesman who told a reporter Thursday the woman "ended up recanting the rape itself," said Friday he did not remember saying that, and that such details of an investigation were "above my pay grade."
Mints said the situation was a "miscommunication."

Investigators with the Prince George’s County Police Department have determined that an alleged sexual assault on the Largo campus of Prince George’s Community College Wednesday was a consensual encounter, a police spokesman said Thursday.
Officer Evan Baxter, the spokesman, said investigators have released the man they had in custody for the incident without criminal charges.
The woman, whom college officials identified as a community college student, had told police Wednesday that she was sexually assaulted outside the Center for Advanced Technology. Baxter said the woman “ended up recanting the rape itself,” and she acknowledged the activity between her and the man was consensual.
Baxter said police had recovered some physical evidence during their investigation but he could not say what it was.

Oh sure, he didn't rape her, but you know what? He's a man, and they're all guilty of crimes dating back thousands of years. Charge him anyway. Evidence doesn't matter. Justice doesn't matter. Right and wrong doesn't matter.

Regardless, given her statement, the Prince George's County police really need to hire a PR spokesperson of sufficient intelligence to be able to understand that "consent" negates the possibility of rape.
As soon as the case becomes that, even id she states that sex was consensual, if a woman doesn't specifically state that it was NOT rape, then it can still be considered to have been rape; then we are going to see the instance of "rapes" explode to proportions that SGI gender-feminist can now only dream of.

This story is par for the course. But since the accused is out of jail, hopefully he has lawyered up and he's planning to sue the department and the accuser.

I definitely got the impression that Capt. Misty Mints was the one "driving the bus" on this one, and the sole member of LE pushing for the case to be continued with the goal of pressing charges. [Even if there's no "justice" to be sought, she can still seek vengeance on behalf of all women against all men by crucifying this poor guy]
As one of the department's top spokespeople, it seems she'd forced Officer Evan Baxter, another spokesman, to recant his comments about the women's recantation - and, transmogrifying it into that bit about the women admitting it was consensual, but not recanting that she'd been raped just the same.
I'd have to doubt any prosecutor would care to take on such a case.
Commenters on the linked story, who seem to know much more than the reporter, are indicating that the women is a scam artist, perhaps trying to create an excuse for her own failure to deliver on promised art goods. If true, such revelations could be easily used by defense counsel to demonstrate an alternative theory as to what motive the woman would have for lying. Seems it would be a sure-fire looser case; but, there are some "Nifongs" out there.
On the positive side, Harriet Harman, the former Deputy Prime Minister of the UK, who once recommended rape conviction quotas, and was more generally known for her misandry, is no longer in government.

I was welded on to the Australian Labor Party at birth and as such would normally hope to see UK Labour win.
Not this time.
They were a perfect example of a government which had become fat with complacency and reaching toward corruption. They deserved to lose.

We need to cut the public purse by around 45 billion a year for the next 5 years as a minimum. This would be a 25% cut in the public purse overall.
To put that in perspective, the entire NHS with nearly a million employees runs of 45 billion a year.
currently the public purse represents (in dollars and cents) about 57 cents in every dollar of GDP.
Wouldn't it be nice if democracy, you know... worked?
