Melissa Handy, aged 38, is charged with intentionally doing an act which tended to pervert the course of justice. Handy, of West Malling Avenue in Ernesettle, faced Plymouth magistrates for an initial two-minute hearing. She did not enter any plea to the allegation of making a false allegation of rape on October 30 last year.
Smartly-dressed Handy only spoke to confirm her personal details.
Magistrates heard that the case was so serious it had to be sent to Crown Court.
Handy was released on unconditional bail to appear at the senior court on August 2.

Hey wait, I was told in college that women NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER lie about Rape.
If universities are doling out the information that women and girls NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, lie about rape, when they in fact do, and over the last few years we have witnessed a small explosion of them...Does this missinformation not prejudice against innocent men/boys that are falselly accuesed???
Isn't faulty and inflamatory missinformation that builds a prejudice against a class of people a form of "Hate speech"??Who is being "Empowered" by this faulty and inflamatory agitation propaganda??
I wonder when we'll reach the point where our justice system treats false rape accusations as the sex crimes they are.
I hope everyone reads these reports. I think the distinguished authors of reports here might find them interesting.

UK: Two young boys convicted of raping an 8-year-old girl
Recently there was a story posted about two 10-year-old boys accused of raping an 8-year-old girl. She later recanted, admitting that she lied to avoid missing out on sweets. Readers were outraged that the judge told her she'd "done nothing wrong." End of story?
No.
The Crown continued with the prosecution as if nothing had happened and on Monday...the innocent 10-year-old boys were CONVICTED of attempted rape!
I thought this flagrant injustice against young boys would galvanize the MRM much like the Emmett Till murder galvanized the civil rights movement. To date the MR blogsphere has been strangely silent on this.

False Rape accusations are NOW all in the name of "Empowerment". But when the law enforcement gets involved in the "Empowerment" business by enableing false Rape accusations..then said law enforcement becomes a perversion.

"Smartly-dressed Handy only spoke to confirm her personal details."
I hate to seem trite, but...isn't that her pictured outside the court in the linked article? I always thought that Smartly-dressed referred to someone being well-dressed.
Not much to go on from the article as to the details of the case, so it's wide open as to why she'd have made and FRA. But, at least she's getting charged, and the story is getting some press (however minimal). Every bit helps to educate the public as to the real prevalence of FRA's. Seems fewer and fewer people act as if they are shocked to hear that a woman has falsely cried rape, and more and more are outspoken about wishing women to be punished for the crime.
Here in the united states there is much bigger problems to wory about than innocent guys getting killed or put in prison for decades....
Like cracking down on craigslist hookers.
A bit off-topic, but;
Here's a story of a women who (statutorily) raped her daughter's ex-boyfriend (and got away with it - remains free on a "good behavior" bond [WTF!?!?, I thought rape was a bad behavior]). The interesting part is, in light of the recent discussion of not naming the accused prior to conviction, is:
”She cannot be named because it would identify the victim”
Okay, then;
Couldn’t it also be argued in all those cases where men are named (and shamed) that doing so might allow for the “victim” being made identifiable by virtue of the accused being named?
In other words, in naming any and all males accused, aren’t media outlets being needlessly reckless in potentially identifying the victims as well, opening them up to what ever it was that keeping them unnamed was supposed to protect them from?
OT- but has anyone heard about this? http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Wellness/sack-tapping-boys-punch-testicles-game/story?id=10762563&page=1

Anonymous - "OT- but has anyone heard about this?"
It's not just boy's doing it to other boys, but also women and girls doing it to men and boys.
It's been discussed some on other venues, such as this piece on The Spearhead
Unless the "victim" agrees to it, "balltapping" is a form of attempted sexual mutilation, and should be treated as such. These are REAL sexual assaults.
Why do we treat a man grabbing a woman's ass as a horrible crime but hitting a boy in the testicles as a game?

Are you insane? This is nothing
You could quote the entire sentence, you know.
Until you've heard the facts innocent til proven guilty. The scales are being tilted too far against the accuser because just because a rape charge doesn't stick doesn't automatically mean it didnt happen! Nor does it mean she is at fault for making the accusation.
"The scales are being tilted too far against the accuser because just because a rape charge doesn't stick doesn't automatically mean it didnt happen!"
False rape claimants are rarely ever even charged, much less punished. So, no, you are incorrect -- we study this issue very closely here, and you are spouting a feminist urban myth.
Feminist urban myth lol.
Im male! next question....
A male feminist. Poor guy.
This case is old, totally wrong in it's application of the law and the FRA accused should NEVER have been accused.
The man was never named or shamed. An assualt took place but there want enough evidence to convict him so they went after her after she withdrew her statement.
The reason for the withdrawal? Not wanting to face her attacker in court not because she was lied.
The police assured her it would all go away if she dropped the allegation. instead she is falsely charged of PCJ.
Suggested this site withdraws this "evidence" of FRA as this case isn't. All charges were dropped!
