This story is disturbing. Greg Brown says it was physically impossible for him to do the thing he's been accused of doing: raping a nine-year-old girl.
You see, Mr. Brown is a quadriplegic and hemiplegic, paralysed on one side of his body and from the chest down. He only has the use of one arm because he suffers from cerebral palsy, caused by permanent brain damage at birth.
Mr. Brown says he was mistreated by police when he was arrested and kept in a holding cell despite the limitations of his physical disabilities. A condition of his bail is that he not stay at his own home, even though he needs special facilities available only at his home because of his condition.

Oh, we're just "overreacting"! Remember, as some feminists are on record as saying, "a false rape accusation can be an opportunity for growth" (something along those lines, anyways). Yep, they sure are committed to equality.
Besides, we've lowered the bar for what qualifies as "abuse" and "rape" so low that hell, maybe a half-paralyzed guy really can "rape" someone in 2010!
Not convicted of anything but he's already been thrown out of his own home -- a man in a wheelchair! Yeah, he's "innocent until proven guilty" all right.
I'm thinking his wife is the only Evidence in this case.

Anon at 9:33: if you are in any sense familiar with the overwhelming number of recent cases just like this that have turned out to be a lie when accusations are made against men who fully are physically capable of raping, then perhaps you wouldn't be so self-righteously certain of yourself here, with a guy that would find it very difficut, at best, to do this.
And by the way, the issue isn't "abuse," it's rape. All of us would love to know how THAT is possible -- oh, perhaps like the "magic bullet" in the JFK assassination, maybe this guy has "the magic penis."
We don't know what happened. But based on the false rape epidemic, we are properly skeptical.

My own False Accuser stated that I was harrassing her by standing outside her workplace. Problem for her was that I was confined to a wheelchair on the dates she specified and wasn't physically capable of standing anywhere, let alone harrasing anyone.
Also rape isn't just defined as intercourse. In some parts of the world it can be defined by making other forms of sexual contact between the two parties.

And who exactly is being hysterical here? A disabled man has been arrested (apparently) based solely on the testimony of a nine year-old child, who may or may not be telling the truth. We are simply applying an appropriate level of skepticism -- the same that we would want if any of us were in the same situation.
That isn't "hysteria." Wouldn't you want everybody to demand proof before believing an accusation made against your father, or your son, or your friend, or even (God forbid) your mother? That's logic 101.
When I first read the 9:33 comment I actually assumed it was irony from someone sympathetic to our cause.

There is a UK legal magazine, The Barrister.
It had a recent story, from the states I believe, in an article about memory, and the reliability or otherwise of same.
the story went like this.
1/ woman reports rape
2/ police grab suspect, and 11 other guys walking past the police station, for a line up.
3/ woman identifies one of the goons
4/ woman is absolutely positive this is the man who raped her, no doubt at all
only problem, goon that she ID's was walking to work, he is a TV anchor, and was actually live, on TV, at the time of the alleged rape.
and then the article goes in to more detail about memory.
bottom line, a witnesses memory alone should not be relied on, ALONE, without FACTUAL corroboration, eg CCTV, ever.

You will recall it was the word of a 9 year old girl that resulted in the Salem witch hunt hysteria. Children don't lie, indeed.

In the above study, 7 out of 30 5 year-olds made false molestation accusations! Not because they're bad kids, but just because children are highly suggestible.
