Connie Chastain is a former staff writer for The Florida Sun, (now the Independent News), a newsweekly published in the late 1990s by former Congressman Joe Scarborough, currently the star of "Morning Joe" on MS-NBC.
"Read Cover to Cover, Never Bound by the Truth" said the little slogan in the top left corner of the cover. Chastain's articles were all nonfiction and ran the gamut from travel to current events and chemtrails to Bigfoot in Dixie.
Born in Georgia, Chastain grew up a preacher's kid in Alabama, attended Alabama Christian College (now Faulkner University) and married a Louisiana boy.
She currently resides with her husband of 30+ years in L.A. (Lower Alabama -- aka, the Florida panhandle).

Rape Culture 101

The notion that a "rape culture" exists in the United States or the west, or all over Planet Earth, is fairly new to me. Although I've been opposed to feminism since the second wave forced itself on my attention in the 60s and 70s, I didn't always listen to the specifics of feminist claims.
I'm listening now, and from what I'm hearing, I believe that "rape culture" is a knowing construct, as dubious as Mary Koss's infamous "one-in-four" figure -- i.e., her 1985 claim that one in four women are the victims of rape or attempted rape.
When Archivist posted a "Call for Writers" notice several days ago, a couple of ideas occurred to me. Begin my education on what feminists say the rape culture is and see what people working within the rape-culture notion think and write about it, and how such beliefs impact the phenomena of false rape accusations.
What I discover will be covered in weekly essays posted at The False Rape Society blog.
I know what you're thinking. How objective can an anti-feminist be? Well, I'd have to say at least as objective as feminists who trumpet the one-in-four myth, who defend false accusers (i.e., always referred to as "victims") on the basis that women "deserve" the right to behave promiscuously "just like men" without consequences, and who consistently fall back on the claim that patriarchy (i.e., men) are total evil.
It looks like I'm in for quite an education. My thanks to Archivist for the opportunity to post my "enlightenment" here.

About feminists and the right to behave as promiscuously as men -- does that go both ways? In the media lately there has been a lot of bashing of men who have behaved in just that manner.

I read some of your blog.
I tried growing tomatoes upside down maybe 10 years ago and for me it resulted in the tomatoes dirt getting dried out too quickly. The plants became unhealthy as a result.
So from that year on I just planted them in the ground.
If you keep them from getting dried out though they might do well.
I just could not keep mine hydrated.

OT: Concerning growing plants upside down...
I like the upside down gardens, too. When I had mine, they worked well, and I used small soaker hoses along with watering timers to ensure they got enough water. My problem was that I didn't have a place high enough to suspend the buckets. So, I ended up using Earth Boxes http://www.earthbox.com/index.php. I used to grow 7-foot tall tomato plants out of them. Every garden vegetable I tried growing in an Earth Box did spectacularly well.

What I Have Learned about Sex Offender Advocacy:

•Legislators are in a position of power, and many have personal agendas, but most are also willing to listen privately to anyone who has something reasonable to say.
•Legislators are in a tough position when they do decide to listen to facts. To simply come out publicly and “back sex offenders” can be political suicide – and they cannot use their position to champion your cause if they are not in office! Understand this, and be ready to work with them.
•Speaking to legislators one-on-one is the best way to get your message across. Emails and letters might not reach them, but if you arrange to talk to them on the phone or meet them, you have their undivided attention during that time.
•Use your one-on-one time wisely! Have in your hand a bulleted list of the key points you want to make. DO NOT focus on yourself and your hardships. Instead, point out how your situation is identical to that of hundreds/thousands of others in the state/country, and you are there representing ALL of them! The legislator must try to balance the wishes of many different constituents, and he/she needs to know that this issue affects many, many people.
•Actually, the above suggestion applies just as well to any written communications .
•Be passionate, but not confrontationa l.
•The best time to speak to a legislator is when General Assembly is NOT in session. They are often swamped with legislative duties during the session itself.
•Get to know the legislator's staff people (aides, secretaries, chiefs of staff) and take the time to explain your case to them! If they are convinced you have a worthy cause, they will make sure the legislator hears you!
•Human rights issues simply aren't winning any arguments right now thanks to our society's dehumanization of sex offenders. Legislators can and will listen to arguments regarding constitutional rights, budgetary expense, ineffectivenes s, or litigation.
•Do your homework! Get to know legal cases regarding each issue (or find someone else who can coach you) that demonstrate how the public registry is being struck down in courts. Or have a reference sheet with published studies they can look up, proving your point about residency restrictions or recidivism.
•Always, always follow the KISS principle. Keep It Simple, Stupid! A lengthy rant (even a highly intelligent one) may feel good to you, but if you start getting on your “high horse” and deliver that rant to a legislator, you will LOSE. Legislators are not stupid – they are generally very intelligent people who cannot possibly know every thing about every issue! They rely on people like you to keep them informed. Show them you are someone they can trust to give them reliable information.
The TRUTH is on our side - the sooner we organize and begin to fight for our Constitutional Due Process rights, the sooner this FRA epidemic will end.
Saddle up. It's time to butt heads with the Klanswomen.

Note the comments. Several from women who are disgusted with women who make false rape complaints, and advocate for them to be charged.
And these aren't MRAs - I don't think - just normal folk who are intelligent and enlightened enough to know that this happens, and how terrible it is.
If anything, it's another reminder that although this is primarily a men's issue, it's an issue which men and women must unite on, against feminist rape activists.

I looked at the 20/20 link.
After reading the comments I realize that about 80% of the people commenting or more feel really sorry for the false rape accuser and want her to not be in jail and not be deported.
Yes folks that is how the people in this country think.
It's totally sick.
Anyone that has been falsely accused can tell you that this is not some little accident or maybe someone loosing their temper for 10 minutes.
This woman went to sleep every night for a solid year leading up to his trial and felt no guilt about destroying this Man's life. Then after putting him in prison she lets him stay there for years.
And the majority of people feel sorry for HER.
ABC is a male hating network. I saw diane sawyer do a prostitution special one time and it was like male bashing on steroids. The solution was to arrest all men involved and put them in jail...and the women would no face any penalty they would be given money and other job opportunities.
As the poster above me said and I agree 100% with false accusers are scum of the earth.
This woman deserves 25 years in prison MINIMUM and deported.
Keep in mind that our society was willing to give him 20 years for nothing more than her WORD that something happened.
But putting him through a year of HELL and 4 years of PRISON is only worth 1-3 years.

If I'm correct, it is a combination of feminist jurisprudence, ms.informed public opinion ( based on feminist programming via media[including the { feminist controlled} mainstream media ) chivalry, VAWA, male rivalry, ms.andry, sexual/gender/sex disCRIMINATION and, androphobia. This is just naming a few /reasons/excuses.
Feminists and ALL their white knight's use their discretion as to when a female is considered the weaker sex/gender as it suits them. They and their ilk still consider ALL FRAs as victims in their zero sum type thinking/mantra's/metanarratives.
