Five false rape claims in 1 month. That has to be some form of record. It isn't stated in the report, but it appears that no one was arrested, at least.

Police in the west coast city of Ålesund have determined that several different women filed false reports of rape or attempted rape this winter. Their motives are unclear, and now they face charges of their own.
Residents told media late last week they were both relieved that the rapes never occurred, but shocked that local women would conjure them up. Police hope the false reports won’t discourage other women from filing genuine reports, if they are indeed victims of assault.
Five reports of rape filed in January set off a wave of fear in Ålesund, better known for its stunning scenery and art deco architecture than for serious crime. The rape reports prompted many women to stay at home in the evenings, afraid to go out, while taxi companies offered to drive women home for half price.
The local police district sent more officers out on patrol, and feared a serial rapist was afoot. The women, not believed to be acquainted, claimed their attacker was a foreign man, prompting residents of a local asylum center to condemn any rapes and offer their help to police.
After several weeks of investigation, Ålesund police determined that the reports were a bluff. On Friday they announced that no criminal conduct was involved in any of the five reports.
“We can with certainty state that the incidents never occurred,” prosecutor Unni Moen Vikebakk said.
The women filing the reports now face charges of filing false claims, itself a criminal offense.

This is amazing. Five different women made up stories about some foreign guy on a rape rampage? This is disturbing, because the implication is that these women cooperated, with no obvious motive (other than the usual: attention, powertripping, etc).
It's one thing for a lone false accuser to do this -- but five? Insanity.

"Fred ripped me off" and "Fred raped me" are about equally complex to say, there is really no cost in saying either one.
When lies cost nothing to tell, there is no barrier to telling them.
When lies actually benefit the liar, you'll never stop them.

It's worse than that! As long as lies give the liar a short-term buzz you'll never stop them. Smoking crack may not benefit the crackhead, but they'll keep using until they're busted or they die, or by some miracle find the strength to kick.

Meh, we don't need to park an army outside their figurative door, or even have any communication with them whatsoever. All we need to do is wake up a substantial number of men (and some women) -- we don't need millions; just hundreds of thousands -- and build organizations that are as effective as NOW.
That's it. We need half a million men making a small annual contribution to men's rights organizations; get that and we've won.

A record for the rate of detection of FRA's, perhaps. Less likely that it's a record for a reporting rate - it's just that LE is getting better at sniffing them out.

This is why I keep stressing the importance of identifying and reporting the motives behind FRS'a - so people can stop being "shocked" and see just how little it often takes for a woman to go the FRA route to deal with her issues. Once the public realizes the minor issue that prompt them, they can better understand (and accept) how frequently they actually occur.

You are seeing all these false claims despite law enforcement doing everything they can to NOT charge someone also.
Holy crap. As someone who, when I was in grade school, had the threat of a rape accusation used to bully me into compliance (by girls who were physically bigger than me at the time, no less) that "Deuce's Law" bullshit is possibly the most triggering thing I've ever encountered. I actually feel like I'm going to vomit.
