OT: Why was it so difficult to get rid of Navy's female 'Captain Bligh'?

Time Magazine reports: "The Navy removed [Holly] Graf from command of the guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens in January for 'cruelty and maltreatment' of her crew."

What took the Navy so long?  I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Navy moved slower than it should have because she's a woman.  Large corporations have this discussion all the time -- firing incompetent women is often delayed because of a fear of a discimination claim. It's not right, and it's not fair, but that's the reality in our politically correct times.

We often hear from feminists about the alleged "glass ceiling" (so-called because no one can see it and we must take it on faith that it exists).  It is a term often used by persons interested only in equal outcomes as opposed to equal opportunity.  Most fair-minded people, and everyone who believes in the ideals America was built on, support the latter but not the former.  But here's a thought: whether or not a "glass ceiling" exists, there does seem to be a glass floor.  This means that once women are promoted to a position they shouldn't have, it's difficult to get rid of them.

Just sayin'.

Two thoughts...

One, it must have been pretty bad to remove the CO of a vessel.

Two, I suspect that her being female meant that the brass probably let it go futher than they would have had it been a male doing the abuse.

Also, that she comes from a family of Admirals and Captains gave her some pretty big back-up.

It's true that feminists tend to support equality-of-outcome, but only to the extent that this favors women.

If men are more successful than women in any field, then the state should intervene to guarantee 50-50 outcomes. But if women are more successful in other fields like life expectancy, education, homelessness, inherited wealth, etc., they are happy to preserve or even exacerbate the status quo.

It is called privatizing your gains and socializing your losses. While men are expected to socialize their gains and privatize their losses.

Guys,

Of course this woman got a pussy pass! What did you expect? Women always get the pussy pass...

Anyone remember Kara Hultgreen? She was the F-14 pilot who crashed her plane on landing, killing both her and her RIO. When Miss Hultgreen had been in training, it was told that she'd had seven (7) downs; these are major screw ups which could endanger plane and crew. Male pilots are usually WASHED OUT of flight training after two (2) downs, while Miss Hultgreen had seven. Even so, she was still allowed to fly, which resulted in: 1) the loss of an F-14; 2) killed two crew, the pilot and RIO; 3) damaged the aircraft carrier on which plane and crew were based.

Most likely. Females have been "authorized" (allowed) to speak/treat males, especially subordinate males, any way they desire.

Was the Ft. Hood shooter given a quote: "pussy pass"? His disloyal, erratic and alarming behaviors only served to earn him one promotion after another.

John McCain was well known as a lousy pilot getting by because of strong military family ties. He crashed several planes. I'll have to look again if he didn't kill someone.

Pussy pass my ass.

Feminist support neither equality of opportunity or equality of outcome. They support "me me me!"

It was a pussy pass. Get a life, fool.

No, he was given the "would rather put people lives in jeopardy than god forbid offend a Muslim" pass, which is part of the leftist school of though where feminism resides. The school of thought that ends lives and ruins countries.

no. He got the "Diversity is more important than the lives of our soldiers" pass. And he was getting it while ruining soldiers lives, long before he started killing them.

I'm active duty Navy and while I won't discount the possibility of gender bias, I feel that the long wait is more a military problem in general than a gender specific one. She was high-ranking, had come from a family of similarly high-ranking officers, and was being punished for something comparatively subjective. (By which I mean, it wasn't something that was concrete, ie, doing drugs, getting a DUI, etc. It was something that required testimony. Equally against the rules, but harder to prove.)

Was there gender bias? Perhaps. But I'm not sure if the bias in question would have been enough to really affect the length of time regarding her dismissal.

And regarding the insistence by some people of a "pussy pass" -- you can't call "pussy pass" and then refuse to acknowledge arguments that show the exact same thing happening to men. If such a pass happens to both genders on a relatively equal degree, then it can't be qualified as a single gender "pass" -- rather, the nature of it must be related to another aspect, such as rank, race, religion, etc. (Or, perhaps, more than one aspect.)

John McCain not only crashed 5 planes on different occasions, but killed a fellow pilot flying a neighboring plane while he was at it.

Again, I ask. Was John McCain given a 'pussy pass'?
