Girl's rape lie called "erroneous" by police

In the story below, a police officer said the girl's story was "erroneous."

Sorry, sir, an "error" is when I forget to set the alarm or forget to stop at the ATM on my way home.

Get it straight, sir: she lied. And it was a serious lie.  Also, why is the newspapers still looking for witnesses to prove something that was a lie?

Police: Girl's story of attempted South Reno rape is "erroneous"

Upon further investigation into a teen girl’s claim she was sexually attacked Monday near Western Skies Drive, police said today the accusations are false.

Sgt. Gerald Rhodes, of the Reno police child abuse and sex crimes unit, said the public should be assured they are no longer looking for a stranger who is attacking females in South Reno.

He said detectives discovered the 14-year-old girl’s claim that a “dirty” man in his 40s pushed her to the ground and groped her was “erroneous.”

Rhodes declined to give further details into the case, and said the investigation is on-going.

The incident was reported around 4 p.m. in a dirt area near the end of Western Skies Drive. The girl said after the alleged attack, she ran to a friend’s house and called police.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call detectives at 334-2115 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
