Moray woman who cried rape twice is sentenced

As was stated in the thread where the link was posted, we know what medical examinations and lengthy interviews mean. These men were raped, only it was supported by the authority of the law. Someone who knowingly falsely accuses someone of rape should be charged with rape if the accused is subject to any kind of medical exam.

Two men had to have medical examinations and lengthy interviews

A Moray woman who falsely accused two men of raping her was ordered to do 200 hours of community service yesterday.

Leoni Campbell admitted making the allegations in 2006 when she appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court.

Campbell claimed she had been raped by a 20-year-old man on July 12 and by a 22-year-old man on August 2.

Her address was given in court papers as c/o Public Defence Solicitors Office, 17 Queensgate, Inverness.

Fiscal depute Shona Duncan told the court that Campbell’s allegations had meant the men were subjected to medical examinations and lengthy police interviews.

Charges had not been brought in either case, she said.

Campbell’s agent, Diane MacFarlane, said her client had not known either man personally. She had identified one of them by flicking through previous school yearbooks.

She said 20-year-old Campbell, who was 16 when she made the false rape allegations, had matured considerably since giving birth four months ago.

She did not know why Campbell had made the allegations but suggested that her motive may have been to get the attention of a man, with whom she later struck up a relationship.

Campbell initially reported the false rape allegations to this man. He informed her mother, who in turn contacted police.

Ms MacFarlane said psychological assessments suggested Campbell had slight learning difficulties.

She added: “She presents herself as a very pleasant young woman but a young woman who is rather simple in how she proceeds in matters and thinks of things.”

Sheriff Noel McPartlin said accusations of the nature involved were very often punished by a custodial sentence.

He said: “Even if the first approach to the police did not come from yourself you confirmed those accusations and caused inquiry to be made and innocent people be placed under suspicion.

“For offences such as that the courts would very often impose a sentence of imprisonment but you have never been in trouble before.”

He added: “As an alternative to a prison sentence I propose to order you to carry out 200 hours of community service."

Thanks to one of our readers for the tip.

"we know what medical examinations and lengthy interviews mean".

Torture, degradation, humiliation, pain, fear, various degrees of discomfort, etc.

"These men were raped, only it was supported by the authority of the law".

Very well put. True and correct.

Sadly, scottish law, not uk law, so no mandatory prison sentence.

"...her motive may have been to get the attention of a man [snip] He informed her mother, who in turn contacted police."

Interestingly, I think this serves to demonstrate a phenomenon which has been previously alluded to numerous times on this forum - the "unreported" FRA
- which, unfortunately, can sometimes end up being reported because the false accuser is "pushed" into doing so by those to whom she has lied.

This seems to follow the escalation of a "private" false claim of rape into a formal FRA that we saw happen with both the Hofstra hoax and Biurny Gonzalez/William McCaffrey abomination.

From what little we are told of Leoni Campbell's lies, it seems that she was likewise quite willing to standby and let the hoax continue without stepping up to admit the lie, and put an end to the atrocities being committed against innocent men.

But, to step back from my rant for a moment, another aspect that I see to this is one might do well to doubt those "rape" stories, told by friends and acquaintances - which seem to never have been "reported". Recently, I learned that a coworker had known a woman who used a such an unreported FRA to explain why her husband divorced her (she made him out as the A-hole who blamed her for being raped, rather than reveal the truth of her having been caught in infidelity). We’ve heard (from other women, no less) how the boastful stories women tell of their wild “sexcapades” eventually morph into accounts of their having been raped. Then there are those, like short-term poster Dawn who claim to know multiple women who been raped, but who were threatened out of reporting (as if…) – who were, more likely, telling their friends they had been raped rather than just admit that they had had sex that they came to regret consenting to.

Taken collectively, I’d suggest that when we hear a woman who claims to have once upon a time raped – yet, who never reported it – we might do well to consider it just one of perhaps untold millions of unreported “private” FRA’s.

Just like Danmell Ndonye and Biurny Gonzalez, Leoni Campbell was just lying to a friend, never intending it to go any further than whatever immediate purpose it served her. But, clearly even unreported FRA’s have a way of getting away from the liar when others “push” them to go to the police.

One has to wonder if any one of us doesn’t have some former girlfriend (like the friends of Dawn) whose been telling her friends/boyfriends/husbands that the wild times they had with us were times we “raped” them.

Hell, it could just be some girl picking us out of a yearbook. Kinda’ scary to think about.

I'm going to take the liberty to repost this from Ferdz on the thread to Steven's article on The Spearhead (for what I would hope to be obvious reasons):

Yesterday’s story:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/01/17/MN8G1BJBF1.DTL

“A 15-year-old girl was raped by two men Friday night after the assailants and two other men forced her into a car at gunpoint in Richmond, the same city where a high school student was gang raped after leaving her homecoming dance in October, police said Saturday.”

Today’s story:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/01/17/BA6O1BJJSR.DTL

“A 15-year-old girl today recanted her report that she was kidnapped at gunpoint off a busy Richmond street and gang-raped on Friday night, admitting that she made up the story because she was late getting home, police said.”
