It would be interesting to know why the accusers are in the custody of relatives. As well, one wonders why prosecutors went forward, considering the inconsistencies in the accusers' stories.
Michael R. Reagan not guilty.
FAYETTEVILE, Ark. -- A former high school baseball coach accused of raping and sexually assaulting two young boys is free tonight.
A jury found Michael Reagan not guilty on all five charges.
It was a long day at the courthouse for Reagan and his family. They waited six hours before finding out that Reagan would be able to walk out of the court with his family instead of spending the rest of his life in jail.
"I never believed I would have been in the situation in my life, and yet here I was," Reagan said.
Reagan's family sobbed as judge storey read the not guilty verdict out loud.
I've been through a very emotional time
Reagan believes the jury saw inconsistencies in the accusers' testimony. He said one boy couldn't even remember when and where the first rape happened.
"They're messed up kids, but we love them. They're messed up kids, and they've been through a lot," he said.
Reagan's attorney, Tim Parker, said this case is the most difficult case he's been through in his life.
"You're sitting here with a man, not just his life, but his whole family's life is in the balance," Parker said.
Parker said he was relieved the jury read the evidence in his favor.
"How could a reasonable jury destroy a family, like the Reagan family and send a man to jail potentially for the rest of his life. It was a good verdict, and I'm thankful for it," Parker said.
Reagan said he will next try to pick up the pieces of his life. He's lost his job and his family business, a gym where one boy claimed the abuse took place.
"To be honest I have a bad taste in my mouth right now for the whole teaching and coaching things, because this can happen literally to anyone," Reagan said.
He said he's going to focus on the people who stood by him during the trial.
"We're going to celebrate probably. We're going to celebrate with family and friends," he said.
Michael reagan's accuser weren't in court with the verdict was read, they are now in another family member's custody. Neither boy lives in Springdale, and police said the alleged incidents did not happen at school.
Prosecutors said did not want to comment on the outcome of today's case
