Another female college student falsely cried rape last week. This time, at Lehigh University. The 19-year-old, in custody for an unrelated offense, reported to the Bethlehem Police Department that she had been raped, and the University sent an email alerting the campus community of the alleged attack. Then the woman recanted, and the University sent out another email to the campus community explaining the claim had been "unfounded." (Note the use of the term "unfounded," which the sexual grievance industry insists does not mean "false," for this recanted rape claim.)
The woman is not identified in the news report even though it seems clear she committed a crime of false reporting; if a male had been arrested for the alleged rape she reported, he would have been immediately identified even before it was clear he committed a crime.
There is no indication that the woman who made the false report will be criminally charged for this offense. There is not even a quotation from a school administrator or police officer expressing concern about the false claim. Nothing.
In fact, the tone of statements from police indicates they are treating the entire matter as a false alarm -- as if no crime had occurred whatsoever. Whew! That's a relief! Lehigh Police Chief Edward Shupp "said he still hopes students notify police immediately of any crime." As if to say, even though this one was a false alarm, keep those calls reporting crimes (and non-crimes) coming, kiddies. Shupp added: "We should be seen as an advocate, not an adversary."
I picture Shupp speaking to a crowd through a megaphone: "Citizens, you can all go home now. There's nothing to see here. It was just a false alarm. This time, we don't have a scary male predator roaming the campus waiting to attack your helpless daughters. Nothing to be worried about."
Never mind that making a false rape report to police is itself a crime. Never mind that hapless males are often nabbed in false rape lies, and sometimes they are arrested, tried, and convicted. And most of the time, something bad happens to hapless males nabbed in rape lies -- their lives are always turned upside down. Some lose their wives, their girlfriends, their friends, their businesses, their jobs, and their money defending the false claim. Some are beaten, chased, spat upon, and even killed. Some kill themselves. Never mind that rape lies slander an entire gender and foment more of the same old Chicken Little fear mongering that portrays males as dreaded predators. Never mind that the public will remember the fear associated with the rape claim a lot longer than it will remember that the claim turned out to be a lie.
But the students should regard the police as their advocates in fighting crime -- unless, I assume, the criminal has a vagina and the crime is lying about rape.
And here is my favorite line from the news story: John Smeaton, the vice provost for student affairs, "said students should contact the Lehigh University Police Department, the Dean of Students Office or the Break the Silence Hotline in case of any crime."
Oh, by the way, the Break the Silence Hotline is Lehigh University's Women's Center's sexual violence peer hotline, in case you couldn't guess from the name that suggests a patriarchal conspiracy to allow males to rape women with impunity.
Isn't it great when universities and police use false rape claims as occasions to combat an entirely unrelated crime -- rape -- while ignoring the crime right in front of their noses?
Tell me, Mr. Vice Provost, who can your male students call in the event of a false rape claim?
In the event you want to read the new stories, they are here.

Recanted rape claim treated as false alarm, as if no crime had been committed

Boy who cried wolf, meet girl(s) who cried rape.
I wonder just how many alleged then recanted rape claims it will be before the Bethlehem Police Department starts to treat all such reports as meaningless - even a real rape report.
If our troll contingent is bothering to read, this should serve to illustrate for you why it is that IT IT THE FALSE RAPE ACCUSERS WHO HURT REAL RAPE VICTIMS! Not the threat that false accusers will be some how punished when their lies are exposed.
Now, I know (having read some of the stuff you all have posted) that this is going to be tough to swallow and even tougher to digest - but, come on girls, it's 2009, you're smart, you're educated, you're tough - now, give it a try!
Step one: Punish the false accusers the same that a rapist would be punished, per Prof. Alan Dershowitz's suggestion (among many, many others).
Step two: False claims become rare.
Step three: Actual rape victims are believed when they cry "rape."
It's very simple. The fact that this plan has so much resistance from the forces of radical feminism suggests that some have a financial interest in keeping things the way they are.
The collectivist mindset toward women is so deeply ingrained in our culture that it seems perfectly normal to people. Women are to be treated the same regardless of whether or not they are liars and criminals.
Nobody who thinks of women as individuals would support giving false rape accusers a free pass every time. The only reason you would do that is if you believe that women aren't completely human and therefore must be held to a lower standard.
"Nobody who thinks of women as individuals would support giving false rape accusers a free pass every time. The only reason you would do that is if you believe that women aren't completely human and therefore must be held to a lower standard."
Every woman I know who is not infected by radical feminism or trying to scam a man in family law court agrees with what we do here. In fact, women are some of our most vocal supporters. Our biggest detractors are chivalrous men, the radical feminists' useful idiots, who think we are whining because men aren't victims of anything. They say that until they or their son is falsely accused and then its, "I had no idea this went on!" You can't believe how often I hear that.
I agree with you: we insult women when we don't take this crime seriously. We treat them as infants when we insist that the world can't stand to hear the truth about false rape claims and that the only way to combat one form of criminality - rape - is by turning a blind eye to other criminality -false rape claims.
"In fact, women are some of our most vocal supporters."
On this forum? Where? I have seen none.

Masterfully stated!
I do hope our feminist friends our reading this.

Our feminist friends really should take the time to consider the implications of their ideology. Do false rape accusers help promote a feminist agenda or do they damage that agenda? And prosecuting false rape accusers doesn't mean that every woman who reports a rape will go to jail if the defendent isn't convicted. There are plenty of false rape accusers who have a long history of making false accusations, just like Crystal Mangum. Locking those women up wouldn't do anything to endanger other women who are reporting rapes.
But no, the feminists will never get behind punishing false rape accusers. Their mindset is too collectivist.
I am a woman and follow this blog. My husband is in jail right now due to a false claim of sexual assault.
This time she was smart, she didn't claim rape, she claims another kind of sexual assault.
See she learned in 2007 to file false charges of rape with no DNA would result in the 'rapist' going free. Now she is more educated on how to "get even".
She is free and he is in jail. He is innocent, has an alibi but LE doesn't care. They believe the poor girl who has a habit of crying rape/sexual assault.
Did his lawyer say whether or not that prior false accusation will be admissible?
He didn't say, I don't think he knows. I am doing my own investigation and am waiting for her past criminal report. I should have it this week or possibly next.
He is a public defender, totally overworked. I have done all the leg work and have given him the info.
I will pray that it is admissable, if not, I will appeal something. LOL Not sure where i will go but have started with civil rights groups since his 8th amendment rights are being violated.
Enabling women / girls to lie to our law enforcement community..is a modern American perversion.
"Oh, by the way, the Break the Silence Hotline is Lehigh University's Women's Center's sexual violence peer hotline..."
It's a good name for a campus rape hotline. As I understand it, the phone would be silent nearly every day of the year.

The answer; nobody

I wouldn't doubt it.They probably own stock in private prison corporations.

or allow women to pick and choose what standards they want to be held to.

"He is a public defender,"
Your husband is being represented by a public defender?
Let me bite my tongue, really hard.

" They believe the poor girl who has a habit of crying rape/sexual assault."
Of course. I do believe VAWA requires it.
I don't hate women. I do however despise women who use the laws to hurt men and their families, as well as, single men.
Yes, a public defender. It is 30k to pay for a 'good' lawyer and we don't have it or any way to get it.
To get him out of jail is 75k, we don't have that either. They won't reduce the bond.
His public defender attorney says the high bail is "for show" for the community... ie: to make him look guilty to potential jurors.
Can you afford for him to not get a real lawyer? If there was ever a time to hock the farm it's now.
"It's a good name for a campus rape hotline. As I understand it, the phone would be silent nearly every day of the year."
Yes, that is my understanding too. At least a few people have come forward at various universities, and said they are bored shitless working these lines.
And if anyone was raped while I was in college, I guess I was out of the loop, cause I never heard anything.
Of course, this is where Renee chimes in and says, "but, just because you didn't hear of it doesn't mean it didn't happen..."
which is really a cover for, "I know darn well it happens a lot - I've heard other people say so!"
[note that Renee will probably disavow that her thoughts run along the line of the latter quote above - she is in denial about her own mentality on the issue, or at least never says what she thinks.]
Talking to Renee gets old, doesn't it? The fact is that she wants to see women as victims and no logical argument will ever change that mindset, so really what's the point?
anon,
I agree, plus I think renee is basically a troll. We ignored jeana and she went away...perhaps we should do the same with renee?(even though I did just now address her in a different thread:)
Jeana is still much worse, I think.

Given the reputation too many public defenders have, you must work very hard to obtain all/any proof that clears your husband. I would also suggest making copies for yourself, in case the public defender "loses" the evidence.
If he has a public defender like the one I had, they will do everything they can to coerce him into accepting a plea bargain.
I do pray that GOD be with both of you during this ordeal.
MENS REALITY QUIZ #2
Q: Why would any woman knowingly falsify a rape?
A: Because she can.
Thank you for your prayers. I cannot hock the farm, I will have no where to live. However, it is up for sale. Our lives are ruined here in this small southern community.
I pray every day she gets some moral conscious and comes clean. Found out her brother is getting ready to go to prison and her mother is a junky. Obviously she has never had a good role model or family life.
I hope to find the name of the guy she accused in Florida in 2007 and get a statement from him to submit to the court.
And yes, I am keeping copies of everything!
