An Abbotsford woman has been charged with public mischief after she created a frenzy by falsely reporting a man broke into her apartment then attacked and assaulted her two weeks ago, Abbotsford police said.
After skeptical police confronted Tammi Zall, 22, with some evidence gathered, she admitted she made up the story, police said in a news release on Wednesday.
After Zall called 911 on July 29, police had deployed officers and a K9 unit to search the area, and crime detectives and forensic identification unit members investigated.
Police issued a news release with a description of the supposed suspect and warned residents to lock their doors and windows. Several residents called and e-mailed, concerned the "balcony rapist" was at large, police said.
Police said the fear she created and the large investment of police resources led them to charge her with the false report.

I'm not a feminist, but if I was I would be the first in line to condemn these scumbags.
Hey wait..i thought women/ girls would never EVER EVER EVER EVER lie about being raped....EVER???
Aren't they too pure to do something like that??
"After skeptical police confronted Tammi Zall..."
I like to ask some of you GUYS to read that again...
Notice who it is that sniffed out that this was a false report? The Police!
In fact, the vast majority of the claims that we know to be false were, in fact, determined to be so by the Police.
There's been a lot of police bashing going on here of late, and, to be sure, there are some bumbling cops, their are some overly-chivalrous mangina cops, and there are certainly more than a few rogues as well.
But, for the most part, police, detectives, and yes, even DA's are interested in truth and justice.
Remember those landmark studies that show us a clearer picture of just how prevalent false rape allegations are? Well, in those too, it was primarily the police who sniffed out the false allegations - in close to half of all false rape reports.
Police will make mistakes. Prosecutors will make mistakes. Hell, even juries can make mistakes. But, for the most part, most everyone involved really does want the truth, and for only the truly guilty to be punished.
Yes, it isn't perfect, and innocent men end up suffering most (way, way, way more than women - lest our troll contingent forget); yet, I think we need to give credit where credit is due.
Each time the police sniff out a false report, it makes it easier for other cops to dare to question subsequent allegations. Each time a false accuser is charges with that crime, it emboldens more such future charges. Each time a false accuser is convicted and punished, it kicks the door to making such prosecution routine open a bit wider. And, every time a journalist has the "stones" to call a false rape report for what it is, and each time they are bold enough to address the harms done by false reports, they serve to pave the way for other journalist to follow suit.
Yes, it's a painfully slow, step-by-step battle; but each little victory plays a role in bringing down the charade of female honesty, and helps illuminate the great injustices being done to men.
Slwerner.. the problem is sir, that the law enforcement community rarely if ever charges girls with filing a false rape accusation.
The modern American law enforcement community is now in the business of "sending messages"..instead of law enforcement, an i think it is a perversion.
Scott - "the problem is sir, that the law enforcement community rarely if ever charges girls with filing a false rape accusation."
Yet, more and more we read about them actually following through with charges. lately, there have even been accounts of women doing jail time for false accusations.
I can understand the frustrations of it not happening nearly as often as it should, an seldom as harshly as it should; but, I think we can take heart in the fact that it IS now starting to happen. Go back even a couple of short years ago, and you'd be hard pressed to find anything greater than a slap on the wrist for even serious false allegations (to the point where men ended up being tried, and even convicted before the truth came out), to where we now are seeing the possibility of substantial time to be serves for even making the false report.
Maybe I'm a bit of a "glass half full" sort here, but I'd call it progress.
Any progress is good progress. I'm still posting news reports concerning false rape and sexual assault accusation on a national/international news blog. Awareness is being put out to the public. I am also providing the link to this site to raise even more awareness to the world.

Anon,
Any chance you could provide the link to that site?
Slwerner,
Correct. The newest post is an update on a sentence handed down to a false accuser.
All,
I've stated it before, but the first step is to get the word out. That is being accomplished. Once the word is out there, people tend to get a bit upset and demand justice for the falsely accused. And we see more and more that this is happening.
It is important to remember, that unless you make your voice heard, then the politicians/law enforcement won't change what they do. Any time that you see a story on this site about someone arrested for filing a false accusation, get on the phone or send an email to the mayor, D.A. whomever and respectfully ask that charges be, not only levied, but followed through on.
Activism takes action. Get involved.
