Coming to a theater near you September 18th, a rapturous feminist call to bloodlust, a vengeance porno flick with the soul of a grindhouse potboiler, and the best male-bashing feast served up by Hollywood in years.
Female director Karyn Kusama and female screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) have concocted what promises to be a delicious confection of misandry called "Jennifer's Body." Here's the trailer's URL on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYQ19JM_M1g Here is how IMDB describes the plot: "A newly possessed cheerleader turns into a killer who specializes in offing her male classmates." Example here. And here's some good feminist dialogue that treats all people, regardless of their gender, as full human beings (it pops up at 1:15 into the trailer):
Needy Lesnicky: You're killing people?
Jennifer Check (played by Megan Fox): No, I'm killing boys.
So is the feminist sensibility intentional? How could it be otherwise? "With the male body count piling higher and higher, filmmakers insist that the movie has a feminist message." Jennifer's Body Aims For "Delightfully Exploitative" Feminism ". . . horror movies are so often disgustingly sexist- it’s nice Diablo’s turning it on its head," says thefbomb.com And Bitchmagazine.com weighs in: ". . . [T]he film will likely be a big improvement over most of the torture porn and the slick, mean-spirited horror remakes that are so in fashion these days."
Yeah, a big improvement because in this film, oh, I don't know, only teen boys are being murdered instead of both teen boys and teen girls, as occurs in the vast majority of horror films, right? (One of the most endearing traits of radical feminists is how they recharacterize reality to fit their twisted metanarrative; for example, they would have us believe that the typical horror film consists of nothing but nubile female female flesh being offed by a predatory male monster in order to give the predominantly young male audience boners. In fact, these films mirror real life a lot more than most people care to admit: young males are almost always treated as completely expendable, and the last man standing is always a woman. But, hey, why let the facts get in the way of a good feminist metanarrative?)
If you have any doubt that the feminists are anxiously awaiting this film, here's a typically abstruse and full-of-herself feminist comment on the film by Sady at Tiger Beatdown. Warning: do not read this pretentious male-bashing-diarrhea-of-the-keyboard on an empty stomach: "THE SUBVERSIVE CRITIQUE OF PATRIARCHAL SEXUALITY starts, in this trailer, right around the point when Naked Megan Fox, Professional Hot Lady, extends her mouth to about five times its natural size and eats a dude with it. Because: female sexual desirability is simultaneously prized and demonized. Female appetites, sexual or otherwise, are unilaterally feared and shamed. Women's mouths, like most of our potentially dude-pleasuring orifices, are eroticized. Yet the 'devouring' or 'toothed' vagina is an ancient bogeyman." Sady at Tiger Beatdown does find the line in the trailer about boys not being people "funny." I mean, who wouldn't? It's so delightfully subversive of the reality feminists have invented, isn't it?
But Worst Previews doesn't get this film at all: "Now, this is all being painted in some quarters as some kind of feminist statement about teenage girls and the horrors of having guys want them. I fail to see the feminist statement of an attractive woman killing men who dare to have a perfectly natural response to her. Was she raped or assaulted in some way? Tormented by boys she didn't want to date? Then she'd have a beef, but that doesn't seem to be the case here."
And that's just it. They don't need a beef to "get back" at men and boys. They are content to use the "reality" they've manufactured from whole cloth as justification for their misandry -- a "reality" that insists one-in-four women are raped and that only two percent of all rape claims are false, a "reality" where women generally are subjugated and men and boys generally are evil predators. In short, a "reality" that doesn't exist in the real world.

More perversion manufactured by wolly world.
What's objectionable is that it's beging celebrated because the victims are teen males. Ugh! That just turns my stomach.
Actually, it's good to show that women can also commit violent acts.
". . . horror movies are so often disgustingly sexist- it’s nice Diablo’s turning it on its head"
I agree, horror movies ARE disgustingly sexist...toward men.
At least, the horror movies I grew up watching were. They almost always featured a man/men getting hacked into spaghetti so a woman could live.
It's kind of hilarious that they're trying to claim there is sexism toward women in cinema. I can't think of any horror movie made by a man that portrayed it as a POSITIVE thing when a woman was killed, at least not when she wasn't a zombie, psychopathic killer, alien, vampire, etc.
Horror movies are mostly filled with men trying to protect the women around them and usually killing themselves in the process.
On a somewhat related topic ,women don't generally like horror (I believe it may be because they identify with the characters too much),so it is surprising that they would go this route with their propaganda, unless they were trying to shove their anti-male "entertainment" down a traditionally male audience's collective throat.
That's a bad idea, coming from a male horror fan's perspective. Hollywood has been churning out utter crap in the horror department for about 10-15 years now.I don't know about any of you,but the movie industry is on shaky legs with me as it is.
The horror movie producers can't afford to piss men off.Women will never be the consumers of horror that men are,I don't care how many castration/femdom scenes you put in the movies.
Actually, the movie may just be a counterbalance or commentary to the stereotype of "sexually empowered, self-confident, etc" hot chick = secret killer, cyborg, or murderous alien in disguise (think Species or Tamara). We'll see...
I really have no desire to see this film at all, but I'm interested in how everyone viewing this movie already. I admit, to me there's some merit to what Sady says. I really don't see how what she said is being "full of herself", I find it to be more sociological than anything. But I guess being a woman, I'm more aware of it. But anyway....
With that being said, I was curious as to what feminists thought of it, and I found not only is what you posted true, but that there are also those that are torn. For example this quote from Bitch Magazine:
- Appears to be a vehicle to allow Megan Fox to flash her bod and be ogled by horndogs
- Makes women look like either femme fatale crazy killers (Fox) or uber-nerds (sorry Amanda Seyfried, you are really great but the beanie and glasses indicate that your character is supposed to be a dork)
- According to the plot synopsis, looks like this might be another attempt by Hollywood to punish women for liking sex by turning them into demons, putting them in insane asylums, and murdering them
This one is from Adventures of a Young Feminist:
This movie very well could be commentary on the fear of female sexual empowerment in our society. But I'm still kind of weary. Honestly, mainly because it's Megan Fox and she's hyper-sexualized...again. Is this just another excuse to see her in skimpy clothes and even...gasp...naked? Or is she using her sexuality to prove a point about patriarchal society?
I'm not going to lie, these quotes got me thinking.
Anyway, I understand your concerns. I actually tried to look back on past horrors movies to see if I remembered any misogyny. I also looked it up online to see if there were any essays or articles about it. I didn't really find any that explained it or specific examples. I think the only problem I have is the blatant attempt to attract males to the seats by having either a hyper-sexual female (who is usually killed), female nudity in a sexual context, or torture of a female victim that seems almost sexual.
So yeah, I don't really know any horror movies where only women were the victims. Whether there's some kind of message, subliminal analysis, or something, but yeah, you and other men have a right to be upset. If it was the other way around, I bet other feminists would be upset.
Here's an interesting read: The Final Girl: A Few Thoughts on Feminism and Horror
It basically talks about what you mentioned about the woman being the last one standing, among other things.
I meant "you should be upset". Everyone has the right to be upset lol.
From one of the linked critiques...
Perhaps a success or two from Cody will help studios understand that women can be bloodthirsty, too.
But we already know that. You're simply looking in the wrong place.
Because we are permitted to laugh at male victims and to celebrate even the most brutal of female abusers fiction simply doesn't get a look in.
You should revisit some of Oprah Winfrey's presentations involving Lorena Bobbit or numerous female rapists of young boys. Maybe you could examine Australian womens magazines who pay costs so female internet predators can consumate their grooming of young boys. Watch any discussion of a woman who kills her husband and count the "what did HE do" or "he deserved it" comments.
Nah. Real female brutality is mainstream and acceptable. We dont need fiction or the movies when it's permissible to applaud the real thing.
Gwallan, excellent comment.
As a defence of the movie and not the people celebrating the suposed feminist progress; the killer is still the bad guy and the good guy is trying to stop her.
@Pierce...
Currently taking odds on how long my variant at "bitchmagazine" will last before they get rid of it.
I saw your comment at Bitchmagazine and it is excellent, Gwallan. I found very distrubing comment about paying costs for grooming boys -- I would like to expose this atrocity, so any details you can provide would be appreciated.

What else could one expect from a man-hater like Megan Fox? Keep in mind this is a woman who doesnt "like or trust men" and who thinks we're "dirty" so i would be surprised if this were anything other than feminist hate mongering.
To quote some angry black men "Burn Hollywood Burn!"
Speaking of which, the next time some forest fires sweep through Terminator land, i hope ... well you know what i hope.
Porky,
From some of her quotes that I've read, I wouldn't really take what she says seriously, or listen to her period:
“I’m horrible to live with. I don’t clean. My clothes end up wherever I take them off. I forget to flush the toilet. Friends will tell me, “Megan, you totally pinched a loaf in my toilet and didn’t flush.”
- FHM, June 2007
“I don’t want to have to be like a Scarlett Johansson – who I have nothing against, but I don’t want to have to go on talk shows and pull out every single SAT word I’ve every learned to prove, like, ‘Take me seriously, I am intelligent, I can speak.’ I don’t want to have to do that. I resent having to prove that I’m not a retard – but I do. And part of it is my own fault.”
- Esquire Magazine, June 2009
“Robert Pattinson and Zac – they’re just too pretty with the big hair and the suits. And Rob is, what, 22? Zac is 21? That’s a joke. Boys in their twenties are a waste of time. They have nothing to offer conversationally; they’re immature. I feel like I have a better shot with someone in his thirties.”
- Elle, June 2009
“Ok, well let me tell you what [High School Musical] is really about. High School Musical is about this group of boys who are all being molested by the basketball coach, who is Zac Efron’s dad. It’s about them struggling to cope with this molestation. And they have these little girlfriends, who are their beards. Oh, and somehow there’s music involved. You have to get stoned to watch it.
- Esquire Magazine, June 2009
“I think people are born bisexual and the make subconscious choices based on the pressures of society. I have no question in my mind about being bisexual. But I’m also a hypocrite: I would never date a girl who is bisexual, because that means they also sleep with men, and men are so dirty that I’d never sleep with a girl who had slept with a man.”
- Esquire, June 2009
“I am pretty sure I am a doppelganger for Alan Alda. I’m a tranny. I’m a man. I’m so painfully insecure. I’m on the verge of vomiting now. I am so horrified that I am here, and embarrassed. I’m scared,”
– Red Carpet Golden Globes 2009
You get my drift?
Renee, nothing you cite is evidence that she shouldn't be taken seriously regarding her misandrist statements.I think what all these statements add up to is a great likelihood that this woman is an all-round jerk - the kind of person who is not less likely, but more likely to mean these things.
And here's a little aside - until Imus and the Mad Bitch guys can get away with what were clearly jokes, scuzz like Fox shouldn't be allowed to get away with what are most likely misandrist statements.
Re Horror movies being misogynist - bull, ive watched thousands of them and in most its about 50-50 in terms of causalities, and for every movie where most vics are fems (The Descent) there are at least two movies where most vics are males (Dog Soldiers, The Outpost). The feminists are lying. Again.
Wow, men have it so hard!!! Hey keep fighting those devil women and maybe one of you will be president someday!
