We are starting to see more and more false rape accusations out of India lately. It does appear that their courts are willing to hold women who file false rape reports to a much higher standard than courts here in the U.S.
A local court has convicted a woman for filing a false rape report against an Uttar Pradesh counsel.
Justice Omprakash Gupta yesterday pronounced two-year sentence and slapped Rs 1,000 as penalty on Rachna Dhobi, a resident of Baghat here, for implicating Anil Srivastav, a resident of Jhansi, in a false rape case.
According to petitioner, the woman lodged a report in Orchcha police station on August 29, 2004, against Mr Srivastav, who allegedly called her on pretext of providing a job and took her to a jungle near the Betwa river in a car. The counsel then reportedly raped Bachna and threatened to kill her, the report claimed.
