The Lie That “Just Happens”
The following news article is a bit lengthy, but examines why women lie about rape. It deals with several different false rape accusations, some of which have been posted here, and the motivations behind the lies. It is definitely worth a read. Link: The Lie That “Just Happens”

Hey, thanks for posting this one! :)
(I remember what a discovery it was, when I found this item in PRINT, on a magazine rack, far from my computer. It's nice to learn about things directly from the physical world sometimes!)
It's an interesting article, and as I read it I couldn't help but be reminded of a whole range of criminal pathologies that are well identified and considered separately motivated amongst men offenders, but all going under the single banner of 'false rape accuser' amongst these women.
Maybe the reason it's so hard to come up with motive is because there is no single motive - false rape accusation may be the common symptom of many different disorders and criminal tendencies.
For example, I can't help but draw a parallel between some FRAs and arsonists. Yet others seem closer to sadists. Many are just con-artists lying their way out of a tricky situation. Some are fraudsters. The list goes on.
Although it's easy to find commonality in the harm they do to their victims, there's nothing to suggest a parallel ease of understanding of the perpetrators.
It seems rather obvious that when a particular kind of behavior is effectively exempt from law, all sorts of criminality will tend to exploit it.
" There isn't a named diagnosis for someone who fakes being the victim of a crome"
Sure there is. It is called being a liar and a criminal.
" It seems rather obvious that when a particular kind of behavior is effectively exempt from law, all sorts of criminality will tend to exploit it. "
Anonymous, have you any idea how much truth you stated in these few words?
Of course I theorize we should all know that when one or more persons know and understand the definition(s) of one or more crimes and what proof would be required to "prove" the crime(s) actually took place, it is easy for the false accuser to be believed because with careful planiing, it is easy to set one or more persons up or, entrap them. I beleive this is called "inventing evidence". I suspect there are many cases of this "happening" that involve inventing evidence and or entraping person(s), expecially men.
That should be planning, not planiing.
and beleive should be believe.
Here is a news report about a woman in Tulsa, OK who falsely reported rape

It's much higher.

"police departments believe it's much higher, in some places, half or more"
In off-the-record, one-on-one conversations with police officers I've had more than one officer state he believed it was more like 75% of rape accusations were false.

The notion that women who lie have a mental disorder, and are therefore not responsible for their behaviors, helps to explain the false rape phenomenon. False rape accusers are shielded from responsibility by having their names withheld, so they can inflict harm without being subject to scrutiny and humiliation. A woman knows that a mere accusation is enough to thoroughly demolish a man's life; and how easily that is accomplished if the punishment for a false accusation is trivial or non-existent. Women who lie about rape are treated not as responsible adults, but as dysfunctional children, to be pitied and "treated," not prosecuted and punished. This is abetted by several participants. The media conceal the identities of accusers even after they have admitted lying. Psychiatrists have long treated women as if they were in a state of permanent adolescence, and therefore less responsible than men. Feminist organizations also propound a view of women as perpetually vulnerable to predatory men, and police officers are indoctrinated by those who share this view. It is no mystery that persons -- male or female -- who are not held accountable for their misdeeds are more likely to misbehave. We have experienced two generations of instruction that women are victims and men are perpetrators. False rape accusations are the logical payoff.
It is worth noting that, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, the incidence of actual rape has declined by about 80 percent in the past 30 years; an amazing trend that has been ignored by the media and others who promote female victimhood.

Well said. You pretty much get right to the heart of it - too much coddling of those who make false rape claims. If men went about making false claims against others that cost them huge defense costs, lost business, social damage, etc; they'd be hit with hefty lawsuits for those damages deliberately done to them under false pretenses. And, the laws which allow for aggrieved parties to sue for damages are what keep the vast majority of people from leveling false charges at anyone and everyone they might get upset with. It's way beyond time that false rapes accuser be routinely sued for their damages.
To me, it's not just a shame that Dawit Bekele chose not to sue Katherine Clifton, it's a DAMNED SHAME. She will, no doubt, eventually be well employed, making a sizable income. Between Bekele’s (well intentioned) decision to “move on” and the prosecutions decision that “therapy” was all that she needed, she has walked away from this scot-free. She nearly put an innocent man in prison (juries do take the word of “victims”), nearly ruined his career, and put unknown strain on his marriage and family – not to mention causing stress that will likely remain with this man for the rest of his life. She picked up some trash to make amends – give me a break!
Real justice would be that she sit under the cloud of a hefty legal judgment, that would lead to the garnishment of her wages towards the end of paying back (in some small measure) those she’s harmed. Letting her off with no financial cost is just plain wrong.
No other types of false victims get off so easy. Those who attempt insurance fraud don’t get community service and “therapy”. They get jail time, substantial fines (regardless of their ability to pay), and a permanent blot on their criminal record - not something that “drops off” if they don’t do it again for two years.
I feel bad for Dawit Bekele in what he had to endure. But, I fault him seriously for not pursuing his accuser further. Her soft treatment leaves other men venerable.
And, did you get this Dr. Kimberly Lonsway character?
”Lonsway says that it isn't only juries who need convincing—it can be difficult just to get police to launch a serious investigation into crimes like rape which depend heavily on a victim's testimony. In cases like robbery, she says, where there is readily available physical evidence that a crime has been committed, cops are willing to overlook inconsistencies in victims' and witnesses' statements. But in rape allegations without strong physical evidence, law-enforcement officials jump on any inconsistencies. "We understand that a burglary victim might get the story wrong," Lonsway says. "But if it's a rape, we go immediately to this: 'Ah, are you lying to me now, or were you lying to me then?'"Is she seriously looking for police detectives to STOP looking at inconsistencies in rape claims? That’s how a great many false rape claims are “smoked out” early, saving thousands in costs, not to mention man-hours – with the potential of saving some unfortunate innocent man a fate like Bekele’s –or worse.
If a rape claim seems the least bit credible, it get’s all sorts of attention (despite what Lonsway would apparently have us believe). That’s why Berele’s case was resolved. He was arrested, humiliated, and suspended – but the police kept investigating, looking for inconsistencies (like staged email exchanges). Katherine Clifton wasn’t going to recant on her own. She’d have let an innocent man go to prison.
Only a healthy skepticism by police saved Bekele. Would Lonsway have wished the police to NOT look at Clifton’s inconsistencies? Would she have preferred them kept from a jury?
From the little I read of her in the article, I believe that those are her exact intentions. Sick and depraved people don’t care about justice. They don’t care if innocent men suffer or are killed – they just want to get those rape conviction numbers up.
Nicolas Martin,
Thank you for that link. Your analysis is spot on. What I find of interest in that link is:
Rape - Forced sexual intercourse including both psychological coercion as well as physical force. Forced sexual intercourse means penetration by the offender(s). Includes attempted rapes, male as well as female victims, and both heterosexual and homosexual rape. Attempted rape includes verbal threats of rape.
So there are including male victims, and homosexual rape in this. For some reason, I have a hard time believing this. Do they mean that prison rape has dropped that dramatically? Or was that not included. It would be interesting to know.
To me, the infantilization of women is what modern feminism has accomplished. Not empowerment or equality.
Anonymous,

I would disagree. There does seem to be one common parallel between ALL false accusers. Avoidance of responsibility. And that is in part, due to the above infatilization. When there is no accountablility, and no punishment for committing a crime, you can guarantee that there will be more and more of those crimes committed.
Wolfboy69 - ”When there is no accountablility, and no punishment for committing a crime, you can guarantee that there will be more and more of those crimes committed.”
Along with the revenge and alibi motivations for false rape claims, there seem to be a number of “cries for attention” (I believe Katherine Clifton represents such a motivation).
Unfortunately, they get just that. First, they are treated with care and compassion – which they probably feel they are lacking. Nurses, counselors, and detectives all listen carefully them, and interact kindly with them.
And, in cases like Katherine Clifton’s, when it becomes perfectly clear that they’ve simply fabricated the whole thing, they get treatment – another person (or persons) who will talk with them and listen to them discuss their “issues”. And much of this is “provided” to them at taxpayer expense (or, at least, heavily underwritten).
There’s just no disincentive for lonely women not to make false claims. For many of them, the “bad” attention is quite preferable to the no attention they are used to. And, it costs them little to nothing.
Unlike the man, for whom no dollar amount can be placed on their losses. And, many don’t have either the resources (nor do their accusers) to go after in a civil suit.
Yet, we can, quite accurately place a dollar cost on many of the damages done to them. We can calculate lost income and legal costs with very high efficiency.
In cases where unlawful behaviors also cause a measurable monetary harm, DA’s routinely ask that restitution be reserved for victims (typically for damages/medical expenses due to traffic accidents).
In that same legal vein, perhaps it is time that we seek to amend laws dealing with false rape accusation so as to require DA’s to likewise reserve restitution for victims of false rape reports.
While a lonely woman who callously lands a man like Dawit Bekele in deep debt for his defense may not have the thousands of dollars in calculable losses she has caused, I’d like to see the criminal courts, by default, assign a judgment which will garnish a percentage of her future earnings to pay back, with interest, the entire amount of direct loss.
Too often, we end up with a situation where a man will spend most of the rest of his life digging himself out of the huge financial pit he is cast into, while his accuser ends up enjoying many of the finer things in life that he cannot. If the Katherine Clifton’s of the world had to forgo fancy cars, expensive clothes and shoes, and luxury vacations so as to pay back the monetary harms they caused, then perhaps that would provide a discernible disincentive for other women to reconsider making their own false charges.
Slwerner,
Agreed it can be measured, and it should be recouped. If the the false accuser can't pay it, I do believe that there should be some accountablility by the state (as they chose to move forward with the case).
In This case, the man lost $115,000 of his retirement savings. He's 63. There is no way he will ever be able to work and save that back up. It's a disgrace.
This is the kind of damage that the 'rape industry' ignores as unimportant.
My opinion is, that if we put father's (Rarely Mothers) who don't pay their child support, then we should put false accusers in prison for the same. A civil suit should certainly be filed. I agree that Brian made a mistake not pursuing that end.

" There isn't a named diagnosis for someone who fakes being the victim of a crime"
Actually, FACTITIOUS Disorder, Manchaussens (usually recognized as faking illness to get attention, the same M.O. applies)or Manchaussens by proxy - where a person intentionally causes injury of fakes illness of their child to be seen as a 'savior/victim', to get sympathy, to get attention.
This is a very real condition, and one routinely ignored.
Dr. Helen Smith has a new post, "Reader links on male injustice", which covers a few examples. However, I found it most unfortunate that this site was overlooked - so I posted the link.
I believe that a trend has developed wherein it has finally become acceptable to openly discuss the notion that men are other than oppressors and rapists, with a more open-minded attitude which allows for subjects such as false rape accusation to be more fully considered.
Hopefully, some of Dr. Helen's readership, who might not have been as aware of this issue can get a taste of what's happening - and become as enraged at this injustice as they've been towards others.
Dr Lonsway was talking about a lack of evidence in rape cases? If that were the case then why are semen samples, blood and tissue samples, and even saliva samples taken from accused men?
There is a lot of condemning evidence if a rape were true, including damage to the vulva and vaginal areas.
He should have ended the night right when she said no. When I woman says no she means it...
Night ends... this saves the guy... saved me on a few occassions in college. I just left night is done!
