Jacqueline Owens pleads guilty to lying about rape

Jacqueline Owens pled guilty to falsely reporting she was raped. The news account doesn't give the name of the person she accused, but it was an ex-boyfriend, so I would conclude the police had his name, and likely pulled him in for questioning, at the least.

Sentencing is scheduled for Monday. We will post follow up information on her sentencing, as it becomes available.

Jacqueline Owens pleads guilty to filing false rape charge.

A Meadville woman has pleaded guilty in Crawford County Court of Common Pleas to charges she falsely claimed she was raped.

Jacqueline Owens, 21, of 473 Arch St., Meadville, pleaded guilty this afternoon before Judge Anthony Vardaro to false reports to law enforcement.

Vernon Township Police Department filed the charge, and charges of false alarms to public safety agencies and disorderly conduct, against Owens in February.

Police allege Owens lied to local authorities when she claimed she was raped by someone she knew, apparently at a Vernon location, sometime between Jan. 10 and 22 this year. Court records didn’t indicate how the claim was determined to be false, but did say the alleged suspect was an ex-boyfriend.

Owens pleaded guilty to the false reports to law enforcement charge as part of a plea bargain with the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office.

She remains free on nominal bond.

She is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in Crawford County Court. Sentencing could be a maximum of two years in jail and a $5,000 fine.
