Greenville, S.C. deputies said a woman who told deputies a man broke into her home on Thursday May 1, 2008 and tried to rape her made up the whole thing. Her lie led to an hour long man-hunt and a lockdown at two local schools. But 31-year-old Amanda Green admitted to investigators that she concocted a story about waking to find a man on top of her trying to rape her.

Comment: A woman can create community-wide panic, casting suspicion on virtually every area man, by crying "rape." Even when the lie is exposed, the reminder that every man is a potential rapist merely because he's male isn't be so easily erased.
