SUMMERFIELD - A 14-year-old Summerfield girl who told sheriff's deputies she had been abducted and sexually assaulted by a man was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with false report of a crime, according to a Marion County Sheriff's Office report.

After running away from home for two weeks, the teenager returned early Wednesday morning and told her mother that she was kidnapped from the Belleview Library and taken to a home in Marion or Sumter county.

Officials from Marion, Belleview and Sumter were investigating the case when Marion sheriff's Deputy Nicholas Ragosta noticed there were inconsistencies in her statement.

During further questioning, the teen told the deputy she had been lying. She told Ragosta she had been staying with a friend in Silver Springs Shores for the past two weeks and that she cares for him.

The girl was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
